Hi Justass,

This is a photo already posted on Macedonian Wikipedia, hosted on servers in USA from the Wikimedia Foundation. I used it to illustrate the subject, what means its usage would be considered fair use in United States copyright law, because it's used for a purpose that can't be fulfilled by free material. Thanks! --Ajta 17:27, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, as you pointed it is Fair use, and Commons dont accept Fair use content, please for futher information refer to Commons:Fair use --Justass (talk) 18:09, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass.

This is not an image with copyright. This image is available on the homepage of the Norwegian government. This source is mentioned in the image description. The homepage of the Norwegian government states that the image (and the others from their press release homepage) is free, provided that the photograph is properly mentioned and credited. --sandivas 16:15, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Someone added a similar deletion tag on File:Karita Bekkemellem 06.jpg, due to the lack of license. Please remove the deletion tag. I don't know how to upload it "the correct way". I chose the alternative "I dont know what the lisence is" during the upload process, and added the license afterwards, since I was unsure when reading the upload list. Alternatively, I could write something else – temporarily – but that would be a lie. I cannot write something untruth (not even temporarily and correct it afterwards), because someone would suspect me for spam.
Although it may seem an excentric way, I first just added "I dont know what the lisence is", and then added public domain manually, with the name of the photographer. --sandivas 18:28, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Little Annotation[edit]

Hello Justass!

Thanks for your help detecting copyright violations. But please don't forget to notify the uploader of those copyvio-files. Leave them a message on their talk page. Thanks in advance. Keep at it! --High Contrast (talk) 22:53, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

template isnt working[edit]

Hello.

Please revert the tags you keep putting on the images I uploaded. I am the photographer. I have stated that on the images. If some other info is missing, it's because the templates are not functioning properly when you upload images. Somebody seems to be upgrading them, or has disabled them. Anyway, I am the photographer.--Zereshk (talk) 01:36, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contribution to Commons. Can I suggest you in future to use Upload file guide[1] that will take you step by step and fill most of needed information by default. In case of existing images please use Information template to like given below, it is not a rule but it make's much clear view of uploaded media.

Ellgaard[edit]

What is your problem? What would OTRS be good for? Holger would just send a mail telling the same thing as he writes here, that he has inherited the copyright. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 16:28, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Pieter! I don't undestand the problem. I am the son of Helmuth Ellgaard and I am the copyright holder of all his works. What do you need more? A birth certificate? --Holger.Ellgaard (talk) 16:33, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I have a problem, but if you say so... OK let anyone upload any Fair use content with marks "it's my work" or "it's my brother/father/mother or whatever creation". OTRS is used to identify uploaders and he can show any confidential information to do so. --Justass (talk) 16:37, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is no doubt that user:Holger.Ellgaard is Holger Ellgaard, the son of de:Helmuth Ellgaard. Commons accepts as "own work" contributions from anonymous accounts. Who are you? What is your name? /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 16:44, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With all the respect but now you are crossing that tiny line of good faith, does a user name have any evidence of being same as of real person? Statement "There is no doubt" - just funny. If I create an account named Obama will I be recognised on commons as president? And for second part, you can clearly see my name - Justass and all information I am willing to disclose. Justass (talk) 16:58, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And what do you think an email account proves? Mr. Ellgaard is a real person, and it is rather insolent that a less-than-a-month-old anonymous nick is calling that into question. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 17:33, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If all your arguments about the subject are based on personal insulting I don't think we have anything else to discus Justass (talk) 17:57, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Justass, please read this Wikipedia article: [2] and that one too: [3] and look att the images about Helmuth Ellgaard on commons. Thank you Pieter for your back up! I am not so good in english.--Holger.Ellgaard (talk) 16:54, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Barford St Michael Church North Door.jpg[edit]

Hi, I have now noticed what you did with File:Barford St Michael Church North Door.jpg. The thing is, I'm relatively new to the digital camera game, and this was the first portrait-format image that I uploaded. I have a Canon IXUS 860IS which notices which way up it's held, and when reviewing on it's rear screen, autorotates to display the image accordingly. The software that came with it does similarly, so I had no idea that when uploading to Commons, it would come through in landscape format (the "Preview" option doesn't actually preview the image, only the associated text). Having uploaded and saved, I straightaway spotted the error and immediately set about rotating with MS Picture Manager (free with MS Office 2007 Home & Student Edition) and uploaded the fixed version - to find that in the meantime, you'd popped that {{rotate|90}} into it. I didn't know that I could request a rotation from a bot; thanks anyway. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:32, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added request for rotation, because in some cases authors just leave images like this. Bot runs every 2 hours, so sooner or later image get right direction. Don't hesitate to use this template, as there is no restriction. And about editing, it really doesn't matter with what software you edit your images. It doesn't make producers of those soft a copyright holder of picture you made. Good luck and thanks for contributions --Justass (talk) 10:49, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Teri Desario Permissions[edit]

Justass, How do I get appropriate authorization to use a small version of the alblum cover ... I see them all over Wiki ... I want to do the right thing ... please direct me. LouieLouieohoh (talk) 02:41, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it really doesn't matter do you upload small or extra large size picture. Music album covers are copyrighted by creators or producers and Commons don't allow "non free" content (in copyright matter). As you can see, English Wikipedia extensively use album images to illustrate it's articles, but if you click on any of those images you will Wikipedia:Fair use rationale and that image is uploaded on WIkipedia itself rather then Commons. So if you want to use copyrighted image and there is no "free alternative" as in music album case, upload image to wikipedia itself, not to Commons. Please follow Wikipedia:Upload/Non-free album cover guideline. --Justass (talk) 06:51, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright status: Image:Gheorghe-Sarău.jpg[edit]

Hi! Can you please help me with this image. I have receive it from Gheorghe Sarău himself. It is from his personal collection, but I don't know what type of copyright is proper for this image. AKoan (talk) 08:35, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't know what permission you got from Mr. Gheorghe Sarău so I can only give advice. If Gheorghe Sarău let you fully redistribute this image mark it with {{GFDL|cc-by-sa-3.0}} and add {{OTRS pending}} to the Permission field. Then send all email conversation you have with Mr. Gheorghe Sarău about this photo usage to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org so that volunteers could verify that this image is uploaded with permission. If yo dont have such conversation, please ask Mr. Gheorghe Sarău to send email to given address. You can read more about OTRS verification at Commons:OTRS --Justass (talk) 09:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok! Thank you! AKoan (talk) 11:40, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Justass, why the file is a copyright violation? The information about the file is correct because the german-speaking wikipedia are using GDFL and derivates. --Markus Schulenburg (talk) 11:45, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Windows XP operating system graphical user interface (toolbar, start button) is copyrighted by Microsoft corporation. And as you may know Commons doesn't accept screenshots of "non free" software. License[edit]

Why do you think that it's coryright violation? This is the license. It's published with a free license on Flickr. P.NaZ (talk) 10:42, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it's a licence, but not enough "free" for Commons. Commons don't except images with Noncommercial and/or No Derivative Works permissions. Please see Free Creative Commons licenses and Commons:Flickr files--Justass (talk) 10:47, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But this image is currently licensed under Attribution-Noncommercial 2.0 Generic. According to the rules, it must be deleted. Am I right? P.NaZ (talk) 11:21, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, when uploaded at 2007.11.20 this image was licensed as CC-BY-SA 2 at flickr. Later user at Flickr changed licence but Commons don't allow reverting for licences, and it will be kept as CC-BY-SA 2.0. But for the new image uploads as you did, we have to look at current license --Justass (talk) 11:28, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, there's one more question. I downloaded these images of Gosmack from Wikipedia. They have to be deleted, too, haven't they? — P.NaZ (talk) 12:52, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
English wikipedia has own image uploading and usage policies, at some points it may be same as on Commons, at others it may differ. From what I see this image is uploaded without any permission from original author, besides look at other images uploaded by the same user, some are already deleted. --Justass (talk) 17:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

These photos are not a copyright violation. I am the one who took the photos and have the rights (I work for Hult International Business School). Can you please advise how I can better list this?

Hi, please follow advises as Tryphon explained you at his talk page User_talk:Tryphon#Hult_International_Business_School. Ubuntu logos[edit]

So here's the derivative of the file you just nominated for deletion. Same argumentation may apply to

What about all those cd cover shots with the logo on the cover? and other logos like SUSE's logo and so on?
I don't know...--Wondigoma (talk) 15:46, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I didn't looked at Suse's logos and it restriction's so dont know. About Ubuntu, well it's natural that Canonical is protecting own trademarks, but "no commercial" use restriction is against Common policy of freely available images. The only way out not to delete logos I see in changing licenses to {{PD-textlogo}}, of course if other people will be convinced that those logos are "simple geometric shapes" --15:58, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

File Deletions[edit]

Hello, I saw you notified me on my talk page that File:Map-ComsewogueSchoolDistrict.jpg, File:EastHamptonUFSDMap.jpg, and File:SuffolkCountySchoolDistricts-EastHamptonUFSD.jpg were marked as copyright violations. The files were subsequently deleted. I can't find any specific explanation for the deletion, and would like to know what I missed (and there are other uploads that should be deleted if I was wrong about copyright). These images, such as File:SuffolkCountySchoolDistricts-BridgehamptonUSFD.jpg (which is still up), come from a US Government Website, the National Center for Education Statistics - U.S. Department of Education, so I thought they were in the public domain.--Neighborhoodpalmreader (talk) 18:30, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, If you read careful {{PD-USGov}} license, it says "work of the United States Federal Government". All information is indeed work of US government on given website and in Public domain, but map is embedded from 3rd party company ESRI (http://www.esri.com). ESRI is private company without any relations to US gov, and these maps are copyrighted just the same as all other intellectual property. ESRI allow to use maps freely only for educational and non commercial usage [5], and those restrictions are not allowed on Commons. It's just the same case as Commons dont allow Google maps. If you need truly free maps please visit http://www.openstreetmap.org where all content are distributed under CC-BY-SA 2.0
P.S I will mark map in example as copyright violation too, if you don't agree with arguments above you can change speedy deletion to normal deletion request and follow the procedure --Justass (talk) 18:50, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Darn it. I see the "powered by ESRI" thing on the maps. I didn't see any copyright notice which is what I had been looking for. If I find some argument otherwise, I'll ask you about it, but I guess these are doomed for now.--Neighborhoodpalmreader (talk) 19:12, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Justass.

I'm wondering why you believe that File:Opera10.10.png is a screenshot of "not free software", as you put it. It is a screenshot of Opera, freely available at [6]. --99.241.40.166 00:18, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please read File talk:Opera10.10.png but as I sad Opera is not licensed under free license thus graphical user interface of program is copyrighted by it's creators --Justass (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. The only reason why I removed your copyvio template was because you gave "screenshot of not free software" as the reason for the copyright violation. It led me to believe that you meant that the software was not available for free. Sorry about that. --99.241.40.166 00:24, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for understanding, term "free" or "not free" in Commons in most cases are applied to licensing terms. It actually dost matter does soft or game cost money or not, just license terms are taken in mind --Justass (talk) 00:27, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So if I understand correctly, if I wanted to use this image in a wikipedia article, I should upload it to that wiki with a Non-free software screenshot template and not the commons? Am I correct? --99.241.40.166 00:35, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I dont really get why my pictures has problems of copyright... Im getting them from the goverment of Costa Rica, owner of the pictures... Please see Commons:Flickr images if you haven't done so already, and the backlogs at Category:Flickr images needing human review and Category:Flickr review needed. But in FOP Israel case you are on the opposite side from your opponents and without clear decision (one or another - I really don't know all facts and cant judge who is right) it would be nice to sustain from voting for or against deletion --Justass (talk) 14:40, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot delete anything - my non-admin closures were all keeps. It does not have anything to do with Borchert or Israel or whatever. Herbythyne's gratuitous remark about my "stability" is totally off topic. (And I can vote what I want.) /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 14:46, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am only trying to improve the page for Aftermath (American Band) and like most people not familiar with how this works, I am sure I have made several mistakes. However, as the copyright holder to the image Eyes of Tomorrow, I did send the email grant a license and I hope it works. The band's cover in their article will improve the page. If I did anything either in an incomplete fashion or wrong please help

Great news, now wait few days till one of the OTRS volunteers review your email and hopefully will change "no permission" tag to "verified". Of course for now you can use this image in any article you want. And please when writing comments on someone's talk page sign your name by entering four tildes at the end, like this ~~~~ --Justass (talk) 19:36, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much. I hope I did it correctly. Zoident (talk) 19:55, 28 November 2009 (UTC)Zoident[reply]

Icebreaker image[edit]

Hello! I just noticed that you cropped the image Tor Drawing.png. I can understand that you think that this looks better when watching it in commons, but my idea was that when it is used in templates in wikipedia it looks better when the image is more square. Marcusroos (talk) 11:55, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, of course you as an author know better and think about actual usage in content. But white space frame don't have any useful information and take in mind that when scaled to lets say 200 or 300px, actual ship image will be even more smaller and less visible due to borders. But as I sad before it's up to you of course. Want to ask, maybe you could upload actual vector files instead of raster output. Nice ship models :)
P.S. I have cropped other ship too. --Justass (talk) 12:09, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! I think that you are right that the ship becomes smaller when the image contains a lot of white. With this image however, most of the white was over and under the ship, which did not make it smaller. The reason for this was to not make the image so "flat". But after having looked at it for a while, it does not look too bas so maby i'll just leave it cropped:). You now what, I actually dont know how to upload the svg-images I've made in Inkscape. When I try they turn out like this when I want them to look like this. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Marcusroos (talk) 12:28, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I dont use or know Inkscape so not much help from me. Have looked at your svg, of course drawing area should be cropped in File:Klm747.svg, even Inkscape shows extended borders. For "shadows" you should better use normal gradients (maybe it's "normal" for Inkscape, dunno) , because now you are using SVG filters (filter4601, filter4615, filter4857 and filter5526) that seems to be program dependant, they all use some strange inkscape:collect="always" mark, that is not valid SVG (http://validator.w3.org/). I have tried to open your file in Ilustrator but it dost understand those filters and shows same errors as wiki. Same output when tring to export PDF from Ink and import to IL. Before actual upload, description, categorizing and on you could always use File:Test.svg as a playground --Justass (talk) 13:01, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thank you very much, I am going to try to upload svg image as soon as I am ready with the next ship! See you! Marcusroos (talk) 13:15, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Celtic Star[edit]

Re your message about the image, I've explained the position on the files talk page. Can this be settled quickly please as I was hoping to use other images from the Irish Ships website. I'll not upload any more images from the Irish Ship website until this is settled though. Mjroots (talk) 06:17, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've since been told exactly what the problem was. Had you explained exactly why the image was unuseable I would have understood where I'd gone wrong. Mjroots (talk) 07:02, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, sorry for the delay. Website where you took image license all content (including images) under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 terms. Commons allow only "free" content in terms of usage, so Non-commercial restriction dont allow usage of those photos for commercial purposes. For detailed information, please read Commons:Licensing. The only way to solve this problem, if you could persuade author to change website licensing terms to any "free" license, like Creative Commons Atribution or Atribution Share-Alike or upload photos with authors permissions (but without non-commercial restriction), in this case irishships.com author have to send email with permission to Commons:OTRS verification system. Please ask any further question you have --Justass (talk) 08:22, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shoot first, ask never?[edit]

You've accused me with the following entry on my user page: "Please, stop uploading images of GPS receivers with visible maps, you don't have copyrights to these maps nor you have permission from Garmin --Justass (talk) 01:04, 23 November 2009 (UTC)" and a big red "Pay attention to copyright" block.

Would it really be too much to ask before shoot? Is it really too much to write a simple: "I think your photos showing Garmin proprietary map material, or where do got the maps from?". In fact the two Garmin device photos I've uploaded were showing OpenStreetMap's (you can now argue that OSM is CC-by-SA 2.0 and not exactly the license I've used, but that would be a different issue). Your action in it's form was just unfriendly and inappropriate and in no way suitable to encourage people to further participate on commons. -- Ulflulfl (talk) 20:30, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. In photo descriptions you have uploaded there where no indication of map source, and I hope you understand that most reasonable source for maps on Garmin device is Garmin. After you have uploaded second device image I was desperate that I will have to go thou all of upcoming images and blur them, so I give you the notice. Please, take my apology and thank you for your contributions. --Justass (talk) 20:43, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So we both didn't found the best way to deal with the situation at first hand :-) Maybe you'll try to be a bit more diplomatic when it comes to suspected copyright stuff and I'll try to provide more infos when uploading "potentially problematic" photos ;-) -- Ulflulfl (talk) 20:58, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Virginia_Hey.jpg permission[edit]

I send email yesterday, Virginia_Hey.jpg is a snapshoot I took and doned Her in totally free usage, I have choose the most free license that commons like.

Great news, it may take few days till one of the OTRS volunteers review your email. I have added {{OTRSpending}} notice to File:Virginia Hey.jpg --Justass (talk) 11:04, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I got the copyright, but adding it in the file is just too complicated for me...

Copyright © 2009 Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB. All rights reserved Johnny Mountain (talk) 17:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you have uploaded picture from http://www.sonyericsson.com website, where all content is copyrighted by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. Please read Commons:First_steps, but in few words: you are allowed to upload and license only content you created yourself or you have to have permission from author. It's not allowed to just copy images from internet because it would be copyright violation. Please ask any further questions you have -Justass (talk) 17:37, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually if you need freely licensed image of Sony Ericsson C510 one is already in Commons File:Sony Ericsson C510.jpg, you can do with it what ever you want, and lets say if cropped and background removed it would be nice pivture of mobile only --Justass (talk) 17:41, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! I don't like the map that I created (colours, design...). Could you create a map of the 2016 Summer Olympic venues? Here is the source: [11] (Page 11). I think that you can create a detailed and wonderful map. Regards; Felipe Menegaz 01:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking about this map quite long, and you know, I like it. Of course it isn't colourful or "shiny" but it serve main purpose - even scaled to 300-400px as an image in wiki article all Olympic venues and density are clearly visible. If you scale to the same size transport map, viewers just wont understand what are they are looking at :) As for the improvement - green circles may be even more solid by few pixels, and add a light, light colour of blue as a background to separate mainland from ocean. --Justass (talk) 12:25, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to do this... xD I am the worst graphic designer on Commons. I have been working a long time on Rio 2016-related articles on Wikipedia, and I tried to create this map, unsucessfully. Could you create this map, Justass? I think that is important include forests and parks, geographical names, etc... You are a great designer! I will be very happy if you do this for me. Cheers; Felipe Menegaz 22:44, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Waiting response... xD Felipe Menegaz 16:51, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimapia copyright violation[edit]

Thanks for notifying me. I didn't know about that. :-) -- Modamoda (talk) 15:35, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, it's common error. I actually dont understand Wikimapia's way of development in creating those half-free maps where only content created by it's user is freely licensed but satellite maps are copyrighted and unusable in projects like Commons or wikipedia overall. --Justass (talk) 15:39, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vectorization[edit]

Hey, Justass, Iw as wondering if you could vectorize File:Nev flag.jpg? Thanks. Connormah (talk) 23:51, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I already had looked at this image when it was requested at workshop, but again I am afraid I wont take this task. Source image is just to small, even with this [12] symbol, or over-resized duplicate File:Novi gerp.jpg some detail's are are hard to see and any svg would be more like artistic interpretation, not the actual COA or flag --Justass (talk) 12:44, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

copyright[edit]

How long is the copyright for films valid? If I upload snapshots of a film released 30 years ago do I violate copyright?

Hello, it solely depends on country where move was produced. In your case Russian copyright law applies, as it is recognized as one of the twelve (12) legal successors of the USSR. By new copyright law passed in 2008, artworks fall into the public domain after life of the author plus 70 years. Please read more Commons:Licensing#Russia_and_former_Soviet_Union and Commons:Copyright_tags#Russia_and_former_Soviet_Union --Justass (talk) 18:56, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In what way this picture violates copyright? I made this file (using IV on picture taken by me), I've put pd license... IV is freware for non-commercial use, wp is non-commercial organisation, so...?--Bonč (talk) 22:13, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IrfanView is proprietary, closed source software fully copyrighted by Irfan Skiljan. It is not released under any free license as GFDL or any similar. Commons can accept only screenshots with visible "free" software in terms of license not "free to use". For more information please refer to Commons:Screenshots --Justass (talk) 22:21, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I still think there's no violation, but anyway I'll ask for written permission from Irfan. --Bonč (talk) 22:45, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The direct link to full sized image would be [13] but it's still just "pieces" stitched together and you would need Firebox extension like Pearl Crescent Page Saver [14] to actually save image as one. This time I didn't over-uploaded with full size, hope you will learn it yourself. Well if you dont, just ask, I will finish the job --Justass (talk) 12:25, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks again for your help. I am going to try to learn it myself but it may take a bit of time. Hello Justass. The image Mayhem_25years.jpg doesn´t have copyright because the autor published the photo under Creative Commons License [15] --Progenie of the great apocalypse2 (talk) 12:30, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there is no problem with license of photo itself, but main subject of it is poster/artwork that most likely is copyrighted and there is no freedom of panorama in the United states. In few words - if you take a photo of copyrighted subject you cant claim copyrights on the subject --Justass (talk) 12:38, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 license is the one that the file upload menu presented; I didn't just pull it out of my nose! Why are we wasting contributors' time presenting a useless license if it isn't acceptable for Wikimedia Commons purposes and is going to get routinely shot down? Who's running this thing anyway? It's insane and irrational. Are you sure you know what you're doing here? Quicksilver@ 19:32, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't agree with Commons licensing policy go ahead and propose changes. For now image [16] is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.0 Generic license, which is incompatible with Commons:Flickr files, ask to change it to Creative Commons Attribution or Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike --Justass (talk) 19:41, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FOTOS LACTANCIA[edit]

You voted  Delete on Commons:Deletion requests/File:The Sun Studio Mic.jpg, but your recent photographs (File:Lambert Hofer 004.JPG, File:Lambert Hofer 005.JPG, File:Lambert Hofer 006.JPG) are seem to be just reproductions of portrait photographs. Do you distinct these reproductions from File:The Sun Studio Mic.jpg ? --Shoulder-synth (talk) 20:27, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

None of those photos are made by me, author is User:Gryffindor, the only thing I did - combined File:Lambert Hofer 004.JPG and File:Lambert Hofer 005.JPG to make panoramic photo File:Lambert Hofer panoramic.jpg. In my opinion those photos and especially panoramic one quantify for de minimis as none of the possibly copyrighted images are central subject of photo and take only tiny parts of whole composition. In the the Sun Studio mic image Elvis take 2/3 of photo, and as I sad before image is used not to illustrate studio or technical aspects of microphone, but to show singer. --Justass (talk) 20:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Justass, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators:#wikimedia-commons-admin.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.
