Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

"The" in category names[edit]

Zdravím. Máš nějaký vyhraněný názor na to, že v kategorii Category:Cadastral maps of the Czech municipalities a jejích 43 podkategoriích typu Category:Cadastral maps of the Benešov District musí být člen "the"? Já nevím, jak je to správněji anglicky, ale většina kategorií, kde je název kraje nebo okresu spojen s předložkovou vazbou, se tady na Commons používá bez členu. Myslíš, že by se tyhle "katastrální" kategorie tomu měly přizpůsobit? Nebo naopak že bychom měli přejmenovat všechny ty ostatní kategorie a přidat tam člen? --ŠJů (talk) 23:11, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

Ahoj. Všiml jsem si téhle tvé editace. Pro zadávání souřadnic k fotkám je určena šablona {{Location}} (tou se udává pozice fotografa a případně i azimut pohledu v parametru "heading"), popřípadě šablona {{Object location}} pro pozici fotografovaného objektu. Tyhle šablony zajišťují i zanesení souřadnic fotky do indexovaných seznamů, díky nimž lze pak fotky z Commons vyhledávat pomocí mapy (viz odkazy v šabloně). --ŠJů (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problém je, že ten nástroj co jsem používal ke zjišťování pozice mi napíče celou šablonu coord ale jen část šablony location, což jsem považoval za chybu a tudíž používal coord. Mně tenhle nástroj nefunguje teď vůbec, takže to nemůžu posoudit. Obecně platí, že když nějaký nástroj něco dělá špatně, tak se to po něm buď musí opravovat anebo to dělat jinak (jiným nástrojem nebo ručně), dokud ten nástroj někdo neopraví. Nahradit slovo "coor" slovem "location" a ruční doplnění směru (heading) je ještě celkem snesitelný postup. Kdysi mi ještě někdo doporučil tenhle nástroj, ale třeba pro mě je pohodlnější využívat mapy.seznam.cz, i když ty čísla do šablony přepisuju ručně a směr odečítám úhloměrem.

Kategorie chráněných území[edit]

Ahoj, všiml jsem si, že zakládáš kategorie pro chráněná území, třeba Týřov nebo brdskou Kuchyňku. Vím, že nejde dělat všechno najednou, ale zkus takové kategorie rovnou řadit nejen mezi přírodní rezervace okresu, ale i do dalších kategorií, kam patří: například podle širšího přírodního celku (pohoří, chráněná krajinná oblast, národní park, přírodní park) a podle katastrální příslušnosti (sice někdy vypadá divně, když se fotky z lesa octnou mezi fotkami vesnice, ale oficiální členění republiky na obce a katastrální území je ten nejspolehlivější objektivní způsob k tomu, aby se nakonec fotky téhož místa sešly pohromadě a aby kategorie navzájem blízkých míst měly mezi sebou nějakou vazbu). Chápu že ne vždycky má člověk čas a náladu si otevírat čtyři mapy najednou a pátrat tam po nějakých imaginárních hranicích - ale někdy už jsou fotky správně zakategorizovány a stačí jen ty kategorie opsat do nové kategorie, kterou zakládáš. Pokud třeba fotky Kuchyňky byly zakategorizovány v Hřebenech, tak neuděláš chybu, když z nich kategorii Hřebenů umázneš a místo toho do ní zařadíš celou novou kategorii Kuchyňky. Nemělo by se stát, že fotky brdského vrcholku najednou zmizí z kategorie Brd, a až někdo další bude přidávat další fotky do kategorie Kuchyňka, tak ho třeba nenapadne pochybovat o tom, že tahle kategorie už je správně zařazena do nadkategorií. --ŠJů (talk) 23:10, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jo, napadlo mě to, ale chtěl jsem za večer zvládnout určitý objem fotek a kategorie jsem zakládal podle dalších chráněných území v daném okrese. Já radši dělám některé věci na víckrát, takže jednou nahrávám a jen minimálně kategorizuju, jindy si zase pohraju s kategorizací, přidám souřadnice nebo upravím popisy. Holt bych rád aspoň nahrál ty fotky, což za mě nikdo jiný neudělá, kategorizace třeba někdy někdo udělá. Času je málo :-( JAn Dudík (talk) 08:34, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tohle naprosto chápu. Mně, když se snažím všechno dělat už při nahrávání, trvá jedna fotka v průměru kolem 6 minut (po dvouhodinové procházce s foťákem má člověk týden co dělat), a to ještě pokud mě od toho neodvede, že při tom hledání vhodných kategorií narazím na něco úplně jiného, co je třeba nejprve uspořádat, než tam budu něco přidávat - když se člověk nesoustředí na jeden cíl, tak se v tom ztratí. --ŠJů (talk) 09:37, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BTW Painters from Bohemia je podkategorie Painters from the Czech Republic. Samozřejmě, že je to blbina, ale všiml jsem si, že je zvykem to takto označovat a respektuji to. Pokud vymyslíš chytřejší systém, pak hurá! Ale byly tu už debaty, například, zda Joža Uprka je malíř český (národností), moravský (geografickým bydlištěm), rakouský (geografickým rodištěm), rakousko-uherský či československý (státní příslušností) či protektorátní (státem úmrtí), který vlastně...? Prague Castle?[edit]

Ahoj. Můžeš, prosím, do popisu nebo do shrnutí editace vysvětlit, jak jsi přišel na to, že by fotka File:Прага (Чехия) Интерьер собора с росписью потолка - panoramio.jpg měla mít něco společného s Pražským hradem? Souřadnice ukazují na staroměstského svatého Mikuláše, ovšem ač je to trochu podobná architektura, zjevně fotka z tohoto kostela není, na což zřejmě přišel už JiriMatejicek. Žádný z kostelů na Pražském hradě mi to ovšem také nepřipomíná, a přijde mi zvláštní, že bys poznal, že je to na Pražském hradě, ale přitom bys neměl konkrétní představu, co by to mělo být za stavbu.

Сергей Алексеев tu má z toho dne několik pražských fotek, tahle fotka je z 2008-03-02T15:27:20, o 36 minut dříve byl dotyčný na Hradčanském náměstí, o 32 minut později už na Karlově mostě, takže by to teoreticky mohlo být někde z oblasti Malé Strany. --ŠJů (talk) 05:13, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, tak je to jasný, je to malostranskej Mikuláš. A dotyčný tam dal souřadnice staroměstskýho Mikuláše. To ještě dopadlo dobře, tentýž člověk totiž dal pražské souřadnice a jméno Praha taky k několika fotkám z Drážďan a z Karlových Var. Got notified through the tag, so I'm gonna jump in.
There are two options - the one I used originally and @JAn Dudík is using, where you grab pictures that have your name in the author field of structured data (SDC) - you can get the query by going to the right of the map and clicking "Edit SPARQL", then copy the code and just insert your nickname instead of the original one.
This way is limited, since the SDC isn't quite consistent. AFAIK, there have recently been two bots filling in the SDC for uploaded picutres - SchlurcherBot and BotMultichillT. Only one of these bots fills in the author field, therefore only a subset of your pictures gets matched this way and the map will be incomplete (unless you're willing to add your name to SDC for each picture manually).
I'm currently using a slightly different version, where I'm adding all my pictures into a hidden category Category: Photos by A.Patek and then showing its content on the map - the result can be seen on my page and you can copy the relevant SPARQL from the map view as well. This requires to keep all images categorized, so it's not perfect either.

@JAn Dudík From my understanding, BotMultichillT is out of service for now for technical reasons, but SchlurcherBot still runs - however, it's currently overwhelmed, probably due to BotMultichillT being out.

Good morning A.Patek, thank you for replying here. I would opt for the first option (as JAn Dudík uses it). This saves me the effort/difficulty of having to create a hidden category for all images. I'm not that familiar with the details. (For example, I can't find the point "right of the map and clicking "Edit SPARQL""). Could you imagine adding this directly to my personal page (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Molgreen)?
