Why is the background area enclosed within the circle supposed to be transparent? On many of them (such as the "No smoking" icons etc.) it's white... AnonMoos (talk) 18:39, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Almost everything has white backgrounds. Not on purpose, but by default: transparent backgrounds has not been historically usable outside specialized publishing software. The Portable Network Graphics article explains transparency was not supported until Internet Explorer 7 circa 2006, around the same time SVG was supported by the same. Transparency allows for the editor to choose the background. I think it just makes page division colors flow better. Int21h (talk) 22:50, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

However, probably the original image author intended for File:Anti-copyright.svg to have a white background within the circle -- I know I did for the few "Anti icons" which I made... AnonMoos (talk) 22:00, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

If you prefer we can fork the SVG. Then there will be no confusion about what the author of the modified SVGs (me) intended. I am keen to do the same for the other images as I am confident these changes are superior, so maybe this is the best course of action for the immediate future.
