You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Hello, please refrain from uploading poor-quality SVGs such as the one mentioned. While the tracing tool in Inkscape may seem to be a nice way to deal with all images that need a vector version, its results are far from usable. If you are not convinced, then take a look at the 500px version or even the 1000px version; you'll see that where crisp lines should be there is just a weird mess of shapes in various colors. Such SVG images don't really help as they are of similar or even worse quality compared to the raster graphics they should replace. Yes, proper vectorization is a bit of work but automatically traced images really don't help (if they did, then there'd be a bot or server-side service doing that and we wouldn't have anything to do). —Johannes Rössel (talk) 01:41, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

I have added now a link to File:Ideal_Standard.JPG which inspired me to vecorize the logo. Assuming its licensing information to be correct, I think it should be applicable to this version, too. Am I wrong resp. do I still have to add some infos? --glglgl ✉ 12:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't see the source was on Commons already, I only saw you linking to an original on the internet. I will therefore ask them to confirm the permission: the fate of your SVG (copyright-wise) is indeed tied to the one of File:Ideal Standard.JPG. --Eusebius (talk) 12:57, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Hallo Glglgl,

diese Grafik hier ist nicht ganz korrekt. Es gibt auch Bundesländer ohne Regierungsbezirke (Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Das müsste entsprechend dargestellt werden. Beste Grüße--Kikulores (talk) 11:29, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Regierungsbezirke steht hier ja in Klammern. Daher sehe ich den von Dir erwähnten Aspekt als damit abgedeckt an, wenn man die Klammern als "Regierunsbezirke dort, wo es sie gibt, sonst nicht" interpretiert. Ich stimme Dir aber zu, daß das evtl. irreführend sein kann. Aus Zeitgründen werde ich in den nächsten Tagen leider nicht dazu kommen, mich darum zu kümmern; falls Du Lust, Zeit, Gelegenheit, Muße und die Software dazu hast, kannst Du Dich der Sache gerne annehmen. --217.91.190.239 11:50, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
