Nebraska Highway Signs...

Hi!

I absolutely love your Nebraska highway shields!!! I wanted to bring to your attention three that are missing from the history of Nebraska shields category (one did exist for a time)... two rather unknown and I'm not sure if they were ever specified, but they did exist. Two were somewhat transition shields for a period of years to maybe a decade.

The first was during the 1960s... maybe for a period of ten years (not sure). One can be seen here -- it's like the 1950s specification, but it omits everything within he diamond, except for the route number (my mom also has a personal photograph near one when she was in high school, so I know it was a statewide thing): https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/journalstar.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/8/0e/80e44abf-d807-5cd0-a62e-cdb197f7bcb9/5e83b7d8140fa.image.jpg (the shield can be seen above the white car on the right)

The second I think appeared around the time of the 1975 shield, often referred to the "nameless" Nebraska highway shield. One can be seen here -- they didn't last long, maybe only a few years. The bottom part of the polygon slopes in faster and the Conestoga wagon hovers -- similar to what is seen on Interstate/Expressway guide ('big green') signs here. The third is seen in your 1967 shields files -- uploaded in 2006 (prior to being updated in 2012). This can be considered the first current 1975-ish-era shield. The name Nebraska is smaller/closer to the top and a smaller Conestoga wagon at the bottom. It was updated somewhere in the early 2000s, were the name Nebraska was enlarged/moved down and both the wagon and number were enlarged also (for better clarity on the highways)... as can be seen here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:N-7.svg

...and then the 2012 update is the current as of today, in that same file link above.

Thanks for the interest! For the sake of brevity and ease of templating, I would rename the 1975 series going forward as File:N-# (1975).svg. I have filemover rights so I can take care of the ones you have already uploaded.

That being said, I can't exactly tell what the difference is between what you're uploading versus what was already there. Do you have more examples of the 1975 series? –Fredddie™ 21:33, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
