Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Fraxinus,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

WLM: European Special Award - European Cultural Heritage[edit]

Dear Fraxinus,

as one of this year's local WLM organizers, we want to let you know about a special award being distributed this year.

With 2018 being the European Year of Cultural Heritage, operating with the slogan “Sharing Heritage”, Wikimedia Deutschland is participating in this Europe-wide project with various activities.

One aspect is a special award that will be given within the WLM contest for the pictures that best capture European Cultural Heritage (the final formulation for the criteria will be published soon). An international jury will be choosing the winners from the national submissions made by the national juries to the international WLM contest.

The following prizes will be awarded to the winners:

1. Up to € 1000 in in-kind prize,
2. Up to € 700 in in-kind prize,
3. Up to € 300 in in-kind prize.

We invite you to spread this information in your national contest and with your national jury, making them aware of this special opportunity. The winners will be announced at the end of the year. More info on criteria and distribution will be published soon on the international WLM site. The German project site can be found here.

In case you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy the summer and the heat and with kind regards from Berlin, --Maria Heuschkel (WMDE) (talk) 15:41, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Croatian Wiki Loves Earth landing page[edit]

Hi Fraxinus, In the list of countries you indicated that a Wikipedia article is the landing page for people who click on the banner. I am sorry, but a Wikipedia article can never be the landing page, as the landing page should contain instructions how to participate, something that never should be in an article. There are three possibilities for a landing page: an external website, or a page like Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2020 in Croatia but then in Croatian, or a project page on Wikipedia like on w:hr:Wikipedija:Wiki voli Zemlju. Until such page is available in Croatian, the photo contest cannot start. Please let me know when the landing page is ready! Thanks! Romaine (talk) 21:29, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Croatia[edit]

Hello Fraxinus, On the list of participating countries you are listed as the organiser of Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Croatia that is supposed to start at 1 September. Looking at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2023/Landing pages, I see there is no landing page yet for Croatia. If there is no landing page, the contest cannot start in your country. If you are still looking for a good design, have a look at this example or this one, and see this page for instructions what you need to put on the landing page. Please add your landing page to the list of landing pages. If there is no landing page available for Croatia at midnight, Wiki Loves Monuments in Croatia will be postponed or cancelled.
