Uploading to Commons and using new template[edit]

To upload to commons, go to Commons:Upload and click "entirely my own work". Try refreshing the page if you only see a box with text similar to this: {{Information |Description= |Source={{own}} . The current upload page should have a number of boxes to fill in. First, click "Choose File" and choose the file you want; please pick a reasonable (and preferably not long) file name. "Original source" should say {{own}}. Don't change it. "Author" should say [[User:EditorASC|EditorASC]]. You can add anything to that (such as Robert J. Boser [[User:EditorASC|EditorASC]]. "Date of work": enter the date in this format: yyyy-mm-dd or yyyy-mm. This syntax will allow Commons to put the date in any language based on the viewing user's preference. Enter a description (this is mandatory or it won't let you upload). Ignore "Other versions" and "Permission". In "Other information", input {{User:EditorASC/Credits}}. This inserts your new template; the template automatically adds the photo to your category. Choose your licensing (I suggest CC-BY-SA-3.0). Click upload file. That should do it. Let me know if you have questions. upstateNYer 21:27, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I just finished adding the template to all the images you currently have on Commons. The others are still on Wikipedia. You can either transfer them yourself (difficult) or reupload them (more time consuming) at Commons using the same name you used when uploading to Wikipedia. Once uploaded, let me know and I'll delete the local copies at Wikipedia so everyone sees the Commons copy. It may seem daunting, but do one or two a day and before your know it you're done. But have a look at your gallery; you have a bunch in there now. upstateNYer 21:42, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had planned to wait until I was able to transfer all my images over to Commons, before bothering you again (to delete the duplicates at en.Wikipedia). However, after I made one successful transfer, some administrator promptly deleted it. I am not sure how I managed that transfer, since most of my tries did not work. So, I have been saving the images to my HD, and then uploading from there, to Commons. I now have a total of 33 in the new image file that you created for me. But, I noticed that tags are being hung on some, to either confirm or delete, and that has me worried, after that one reversal. Maybe you can delete the ones at en.Wiki now, before some other Admin decides to delete the ones that I have uploaded to Commons? I only have dialup access to the Internet, so it takes about one-half hour to upload each image to Commons.
I made some errors, in the process. On this [new one] (did not have it in en.Wiki first), I forgot to check my software, and the first upload was too low resolution. So, I uploaded again, with a much higher resolution. Then, had a difficult time getting the desired high res one to the top. If you can, please delete all the others, below the high res one that is now at the top. Made that same error on this [one too]. It too is low res and should be deleted entirely. I uploaded a higher res one, but with a slight change in the file name, to replace it. That one, is [here] and is the one that I want to remain. Thanks much. Give me a bit of time and I'll get back to you. Sorry for the delay. upstateNYer 23:29, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if you're having trouble with the tool to transfer, just reupload here under the same name used at Wikipedia. As for uploading over another version, Commons takes a little time before it will use that newly uploaded image rather than the old version (don't ask me why, it confused me to hell when I first did it). As you upload the new ones, let me know on my Wikipedia talk page which images to delete and I will do so. I don't have admin priveleges here, only at Wikipedia, so I can't do any deletions here. However, User:Juliancolton is a very helpful and skilled admin and will be happy to delete here if necessary. Just note that I can't delete anything at WP until you upload the same file here (again, under the exact same name). upstateNYer 20:15, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Jan1966-StapletonAirport-SouthToNorthView.jpg[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your work. It looks to me like there's a problem with your new version of File:Jan1966-StapletonAirport-SouthToNorthView.jpg - the shadows somehow turned green. Do you see that too? Thanks. -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can definitely see it now. Not sure why I didn't see it when I worked on the newest version, last night. Just too tired, I guess. I would appreciate your deleting that latest version entirely. Thanks for saving me further embarrassment... I will start from scratch on the original color slide from which that uploaded photo comes, to see if I can improve on the color balance of the one I uploaded in 2009. I don't have the real expensive software, so I might not be able to do as good a job as can some of the more expert editors.
The reason I tried to make an updated one, is that the revision by Atmoz reduced the Bytes down to only 518. I think it is best to retain the greater Bytes, because more detail can be seen by anyone who wants to blow it up for that purpose. Not sure why Atmoz reduced the Bytes too. He definitely improved the color balance, but I would prefer that if someone can improve in that way, they do so without reducing the Bytes.
Your help is very much appreciated. I am open to any further suggestions you might have. EditorASC (talk)

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:550601-DenverMayorWill NicholsonTaking Oath Of Office.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Apparent bug in the upload Wizard[edit]

I followed the instructions of the Wizard as to each step of the upload process. However, it had the exclamation mark ("!") at the end, inside of a triangle, which seemed to say that some requirement needed attention. However, when I scrolled up to find out WHAT needed to be fixed, there was NO INDICATION of what part of the process needed repair or adjustment. The only indication seemed to be with the categories I selected. After each one, there was a RED "X" mark (in a circle), which indicated (to ME), that those categories were not acceptable. Aside from that, the Wizard did NOT indicate that any other part of the process needed to be changed or altered.

That means, to me, that there is a bug in the software. If a warning is given at the bottom, that SOMETHING hasn't been done correctly, then it is a matter of simple logic that the software should indicate just WHAT needs to be fixed! How can anyone know what needs to be fixed, if there is NO INDICATION of what the actual problem is? Apparently, after receiving a reply and following the FURTHER instructions, I chose the wrong license. I preferred to use the same license as I had in the past (3.0), and since that was one of the options offered, I chose it again. But, if I understand it correctly now, the only one I was REALLY allowed to choose, was the 4.0 license. If that is the rule now, then why did it still offer the 3.0 option? I think the Wizard software needs an upgrade, so that it will be clear what needs to be fixed and also if only one license version is acceptable, that no others will be offered. Demeaning Statement on my list of photos page:[edit]

Could someone please get rid of that "warning" (high lighted in rust red) that implies I have uploaded someone else's photo without permission? It was a SOFTWARE problem with Wikipedia Commons uploading tool. All the photos I have uploaded were taken my me. PERIOD!!!!

iT REALLY is demeaning to have that "warning" there, especially when there is no truth to the implied allegation. Thank you. EditorASC (talk) 01:42, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
