First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

About deletion request[edit]

Hello, E8! I made two files' deletion requests on June 18. [1][2] I uploaded the two images to the Wikimedia Commons. Now I want it to be deleted. However, I noticed you skipped the two files when deleting files on the request list. Please help me delete them. Thank you! AlexHe34 (talk) 11:27, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thermal Depolymerisation (TDP) article[edit]

In the article on TDP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_depolymerization), you reverted a change I made. As I recall, my addition was that carbon dioxide was not a polymer, and therefore could not be processed by TDP.

Why does my addition constitute vandalism? Why was it an "unconstructive edit"?

It seems to me, that the article in question should be split into two - one for TDP and another for the company called Changing World Technologies, as there appears nothing wrong with the process itself and associating it with an apparently failed company may be counter-productive.

By the way, my name is Alan Erskine and I can be contacted at alan.erskine1(at)bigpond.com

  • Your edit was poorly written and contributed nothing new to the page; the terms "vandalism" and "unconstructive" are added via standard reversion templates. Also note that there already exists separate pages for CWT and TDP. Aside, you should have commented on the Wikipedia Talk page associated with the content (not my Wikimedia Commons Talk page).--E8 (talk) 18:42, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Ranch Wind Speed Frequency svg[edit]

Hello- There are no values on the right hand Mega Watt hour scale because there were no values available for the installed turbines. The distribution of the wind speeds give the energy available at those speeds if you install a 'bigger' turbine you will be able to extract more power.
