NBC logo (1)

Hi

Sorry I reverted your latest change.

The file is 2 Mb!!!, instead of 64Kb (30 times as large!) - the keylines are very uneven and erratic.

I can see you're trying to learn how to do this, and you started by trying to create a version with an online generator (that never works out well).

Now you're trying to draw it yourself, which is cool, and the right way to go, but your version has very unevenly drawn keylines and irregularities in the shapes and is massively bloated in file size.

I suspect you're still using some sort of 'autotrace' feature - they are hardly ever likely to produce acceptable results in quality or filesize.

Another problem is, you're making all these experimental changes to a file which is live, in use, on actual articles. That's bad practice, and confusing.

Why don't you describe what alterations you want to make, and we can do it with you, properly - that way we get a good file improvement, and you might get to learn from, and enjoy, the process? Drop a message on my talk page if you like, but I don't come here every day, so my talkpage at en.wp (link) might be quicker if you don't want to wait. Cheers. Sorry about the mess-ups. I once used an online generator. But now, I create a vectorize image on Photoshop CS6, save it as a PSD file, open that PSD file on Illustrator, save it as an AI file and as an SVG file. Tell you what: I may e-mail you a PSD file of my faithful recreation of the post-2013 NBC Peacock logo...if you do have Photoshop. Don-Don (talk) 04:17, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Well, it's all the conversions that are killing you - if you're working with a vector (svg) - you should create it in Illustrator if you have that - (or Inkscape) - without using any autotracing - and save as an SVG. You should also save as an AI in illustrator to keep your master.

Starting off in Photoshop then converting through all those formats is your problem.

To get a start, if it's too much to start from scratch, you could download the existing SVG, then open and edit that in AI or Inkscape.

Try it that way and see how you go.

If you upload anything then upload as File:NBC blah blah - edited.svg while you're experimenting - then it won't override the live file.

I do have photoshop, but I don't use email for wikipedia stuff, so you'd need to stick the psd on a DropBox or other fileshare service if we got to the point of needing that, but have a go without Photoshop first - the conversions are what are giving you the problems. Hi, I reverted your prose TM text, because it's better covered by {{Trademark}} at the end of the "license" section. In theory you could pull it there, and insert it in the permission= line of the "summary" section, because it's no license at all, but I fear some bot would move it again down. We could also discuss the best solution on the Village pump/Copyright: I only think that your idea was wrong, I'm not sure. –Be..anyone (talk) 08:06, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi

With regards to https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/d/d6/20150409032627%21NBC_2014_Ident.svg.

This is technically a better file than the existing one. Well done. It contains no bloat or embedded rasters.

There are 2 problems before it could be used:

• The colours are wrong (too bright)
• The whole border/keyline thing should be removed. It's not on the referenced logo at http://www.nbc.com/ which has a white background, no lines.

If you can fix those things (the keylines and all the colours) to match the original at http://www.nbc.com/ then this would, indeed be an improvement, and could be used.

Here's a link to the current png which you can examine for colour/lack of keylines: http://www.nbc.com/sites/nbcunbc/themes/aurora_nbc/logo.png. Basically it's like File:NBC 2014 Indent Style.png referred to directly above.

You can't use a file you found on a blog site as a reference!! That's not acceptable in any way. You need to use only the official reference files from the company. There is no problem finding them, after all. While your technical skills seem to be gradually improving, your very annoying habit of uploading incorrect versions over live files which are in use continues. That's much better. Thank you. I think the "highlights" on the yellow and green feathers should be a little darker, and it would be good to fix that, but it's an improvement anyway, so I won't revert it.

The only place to get official company logos is the company website. The one you ask about here seems to be an NBC site, so ok, but since we have it at www.nbc.com, there's no need, or reason, to look anywhere else.

And no, 'objectable' and 'rejectable' aren't used that way - 'unacceptable?' or 'not acceptable' are fine. Begoon - talk 13:10, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
