First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

Dear MJSmit, The problem you experienced arises when someone, when s/he uploads an image, leaves the camera serial number without renaming the title to give a short description of the contents. Whenever someone else, using the simekingd of camera, uploads a new picture bearing the same serial number, what happens is that s/he overwrites the old image, which is thus deleted. If you are the original uploader, you can still overwrite again the deleted image, by uploading the old image again, keeping the same name. If you are not, you should contact and administrator, which I am not, to check whether the old image can be recovered. I strongly recommend to rename all images before uploading them, always. To be certain that no one else will unwillingly overwrite your uplaods, you may sign them with your name or with the date, so that it becomes extremely unlikely that this accident happens again. My best wishes. --User:G.dallorto 15:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rotte[edit]

The article about the river Rotte has a map, drawn by you, with the rivers and canals around Rotterdam In this map the river Rotte is slightly longer than in reality. Otherwise said: the last two linepieces are not called Rotte, but Stokviswater en Delftse Vaart.

If I knew how to change the map, I would. But I have some difficulty finding the right instructions. Could you help me?

Thank youJanvdnoort 14:25, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will have a closer look at an atlas, correct them, and replace the map. There are no particular instructions; but of course the original file is a vector image, and what is uploaded here is just a raster version of the same. MJSmit 08:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A map on my website might help: http://www.jvdn.nl/pages/Rotte-Dam/02.html The Rotte (north of the Admiraal de Ruyterweg) is connected with the Delftsevaart by a canal called Stokviswater. Thank youJanvdnoort 12:09, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to download, change and upload the map. Hope you like it.Janvdnoort 16:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good work. Sorry that I hadn't found the time yet to do it myself. I will implement the changes in my original vector image as well, so that in future changes your correction is not lost :-) MJSmit 08:27, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Classical geographer!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Your file Gulf of Mexico places.png[edit]

Gulf of Mexico places.png Was going to put this up for deletion, but figured this was a significantly better way of broaching the subject. Simple issue -- you placed a marker for New Orleans about 50-70 miles WNW of it's actual location at ~30 lat ~90 lon. If it were any other city, no one would have probably said anything, but we're doggone proud down here, even of where we are. Thanks for your attention in this. My username is jameslightell on WikiPedia, should you deem any further communique necessary.</nowiki>

Thanks for notifying me! I'll have a look at it - in two week's time. Classical geographer (talk) 12:07, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sicily[edit]

In this map: [1] there is, in sicilia, an highway marked as A15. But it isn't really A15, it is RA15 ;) --Luca Fascia (talk) 21:17, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Is that R for 'regionale'? I'm not that familiar with the Italian autostrade, really. Can you perhaps provide any source for the naming? Classical geographer (talk) 12:40, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
R means raccordo. See pag. 22: [2]. In Italy there are 31 autostrade with number from 1 to 33 (no A17 and no A2), there are 7 autostrade tangenziali (by-pass of big cities) with number from 50 to 57 (no A53 because is more properly a raccordo, a connection between two motorways), there is A53, A90 (aka GRA) and A91 and there are many others little bretelle or raccordi with the number of the main autostrada or with the number of the two autostrade linked [3] (bretelle e raccordi are connections between two autostrade or connections between motorways and important cities without autostrade). there are also 17 roads called raccordi autostradali with not only the A of autostrade but with also the R (of raccordo). the 17 raccordi autostradali (with RA) can be classified or as autostrada or as superstrada (expressway). RA15 is a raccordo autostradale classified as autostrada ;) --Luca Fascia (talk) 22:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Man, this is complicated! But of all the numbered autostrade in the map, only the 15 is RA? Classical geographer (talk) 10:25, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes ;) See now [4] --Luca Fascia (talk) 11:03, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:ICEtracks.png in a newly released book[edit]

Hi! I just came across your picture File:ICEtracks.png in the newly released book "Der ICE" (ISBN 978-3-7654-7320-3, page 90). It is attributed with the term "Classical geographer, creative commons", but it seems quite obvious to me that this book violates the CC-terms by neglecting the right to make copies of it, hence violating the "same terms" rule of the CC licences. Thought you might be interested in this. --Bigbug21 (talk) 06:57, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I'm mostly flattered the image was included, and will surely look it up. If they mention somewhere that the image was released as CC, then the ©-status of the rest of the book doesn't apply here; if they don't, then they're indeed making a mistake. However, as long as they don't come claiming here at Commons that they actually own the copyright, I don't think it's serious enough to harass the editor. But maybe there's a Helpdesk at Commons to discuss this kind of issues? Classical geographer (talk) 16:10, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have no real idea. From what I CC licence at hand requires the publisher to release the works under the same condition (ie free copying). --Bigbug21 (talk) 21:26, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Jane Jacobs and Spencer Beebe photo[edit]

Hello Classical_geographer,

I was able to correct the description of the photograph, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jane_Jacobs_and_SBB.jpg. Thanks again for posting it to Jane Jacobs article.

Sam Beebe (talk) 18:48, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sam, excellent! Thanks! I have, however, put a cut version of the picture in the Jane Jacobs article. If a free image of Jacobs at a younger age comes online, that could be put at the top of the article, and the 2004 picture as a whole could the feature somewhere further down in the article. Hi Classical geographer,
I hope you don't mind me adding the old Staaken and Johannisthal airfields to your image. Joerg, the BajanZindy (talk) 18:00, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Of course not! But be aware that there is another, more widely used map of the Berlin airports around, linked from the page with 'my' map. Classical geographer (talk) 10:36, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
True, I would've liked to add the missing airfields/-ports to the other images, too. Only problem I got: my PC got no software to work on svg files. Greetings from Berlin-Spandau. Joerg, the BajanZindy (talk) 15:26, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Do you know this website? http://www.rff.fr/cartes/carte_reseau.html. There is some news about project (in French). i advice you to click on "la cart des grands projet" (the map of important projects) and you will see that a high speed line is planned between Le Mans and Rennes projet page. Thanks for your maps. Hatonjan (talk) 17:50, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hatonjan, thanks for your comments. I read indeed (among others in w:LGV_Bretagne-Pays_de_la_Loire that the project is now at a rather advanced stages - far enough to be included, so I'll update the map. Thanks again! Classical geographer (talk) 22:16, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Tours - Bordeaux LGV line is now due to open all at once, if I understand correctly, in 2017, rather than part in 2013 and part in 2016. The detailed route and other information is available here: http://www.lgvsudeuropeatlantique.org/cartes-et-projet-technique 82.236.224.227 19:41, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll have a look! 09:54, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

The eastern part of the LGV Rhin-Rhône is now operating. I don't know the expected opening dates for the other two sections. Also, the opening date for the LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire has slipped from 2014 to 2016. Keep up the great work! 90.30.194.76 13:52, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for notifying me, I'll see to it sometime over the next weeks. Classical geographer (talk) 19:59, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The eastern part of the LGV Rhin-Rhône has opened only as far as Belfort. Construction has not even begun yet on the final Belfort to Mulhouse section. I don't know when the remaining three sections of the LGV Rhin-Rhône will open. 90.38.157.219 09:59, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The section which opened in December is clearly shown here http://www.rff.fr/cartes/carte_reseau.html (as still under construction) with enough detail to update your map. 90.30.194.27 14:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for reminding me, and for the link. Classical geographer (talk) 09:59, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for keeping this map up-to-date. A few points for the next time you update it:

  • Le Mans - Rennes is planned to open in 2016, not 2014.
  • Nîmes - Montpellier has not yet begun construction (expected to start soon), so an opening date of 2013 is impossible. It will open sometime in the second half of this decade.
  • In my opinion, it would be helpful to visually distinguish between lines already under construction and planned lines. Perhaps you might retain the dotted lines for planned lines and use dashed lines for lines under construction.

I appreciate your work on this and will understand if you decide to wait for construction of Nîmes - Montpellier to start before updating the map again. 217.75.75.234 07:49, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revised dates, I'll add them in at some point. Also the suggestion to split the two types of not-there-yet are good. If I understand the news sources correctly, the Nîmes-Montpellier bypass is to start construction soon, but the Montpellier-Perpignan section is still only in the planning stage. Can anyone confirm this? Classical geographer (talk) 12:04, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for keeping this terrific map up-to-date. M Carling (talk) 05:55, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliments and the new details! I'll make the adjustments later this week. Classical geographer (talk) 12:14, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear User:Classical geographer, thanks for maintaining a very clear map. Following recent decisions (July 2013) by the French government to delay many planned lines for lack of money, I am updating the relevant articles, starting with the summary list. Here are the updates that should be reflected on your map. If you have no time and are willing to send me the source file, I'm willing to update it myself. JFG (talk) 07:11, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Allow me to add some geographical details on already-drawn lines:

  • en:LGV Méditerranée splits towards Montpellier slightly west of Avignon, not north of it
  • The Southern branch of en:LGV Rhin-Rhône is planned to be built further to the East, starting from the Western end point of the currently in-service Eastern branch. It would then join en:LGV Rhône-Alpes at the en:Lyon–Saint_Exupéry_Airport, east of Lyon. (The earlier path you drew joining en:LGV Sud-Est near Mâcon has been abandoned.)
  • A regular service operates from Paris to Basel via the en:LGV Rhin-Rhône; you could extend the thin black line from Mulhouse to Basel.
  • The planned line from Bordeaux to the Spanish border splits off from en:LGV Bordeaux-Toulouse south-east from Bordeaux, after a significant length of common section.
  • The arrow towards Italy from Mâcon does not match any TGV service I'm aware of (even on classical lines); I would suggest deleting it.
  • The map legend should differentiate between dashed under-construction lines and dotted planned lines.
Wow, this is extremely useful, thanks! I'll have a go at it myself, having a tiny bit of spare time on my hand. The original file is CorelDraw, and I'm having difficulties making a more transportable format out of it... so I'll try myself first. Thanks for the list & the suggestions. By the way, the link from Mâcon was to indicate services to Genève via Bourg. Classical geographer (talk) 09:26, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, looking forward to your update. To help position current projects, here is a good 2012 map from RFF with the latest planned line paths. The POCL line is drawn there with two variants, the Western path being the more likely, you can keep just this one to avoid cluttering your map. You will also see more hypothetical lines drawn as green dots, out of which only Toulouse-Narbonne is being officially studied now (see RFF list of new line projects). Let's keep them out. JFG (talk) 09:39, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The service to Genève via Mâcon and Bourg-en-Bresse is correct, the Swiss and French decided to revive an old and picturesque single-track line, rather than build an expensive LGV in the mountains. This service opened in 2010, however your second black line just under Mâcon-Genève is redundant. (Trust me, I live there ;-) JFG (talk) 09:46, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A final note regarding planned lines which are not yet under construction: en:LGV Bordeaux-Toulouse has been delayed from 2020 to 2030, all others have been pushed to undefined dates beyond 2030... until the next government changes priorities again! JFG (talk) 10:17, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Many, many thanks! I've adjusted the map. Although I try to keep up to date myself, it's difficult to do so for every map. More feedback and future suggestions are most appreciated! Classical geographer (talk) 15:20, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Classical geographer, the French government recently published the latest round of updates on LGV construction. They are still out of money, so most plans are delayed. Here we go:

Thanks again for your help. JFG (talk) 22:12, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Great, JFG, that's an excellent summary! I'll update the map soon. Classical geographer (talk) 08:42, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this great map! A couple updates needed when you have time: Bretagne-Pays de la Loire and Sud-Ouest are now open. Also Sud-Ouest now seems to be known more commonly as "LGV Sud Europe Atlantique", and this is the title of both French and English Wikipedia articles. the wub "?!" 11:20, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome map! A couple more updates, if you don't mind me resurrecting a long-running thread. The map at File:Carte TGV-fr.svg includes the line to Angoulême via Poitiers that is running now 😊 — OwenBlacker (talk; please ping me in replies) 21:29, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Owen, that would be one of the "selected other lines" carrying TGV traffic - it's not a high-speed line, only high-speed services over a regular line. Not really worth it, I think, but feel free to add it :-). Classical geographer (talk) 20:35, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Classical geographer, in your map of the ICE tracks, you named every city where the lines split up with only one exception: Augsburg (north-west of Munich). Could you please add Augsburg? Thank you very much! Brezelsuppe (talk) 14:33, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hamm is not mentioned either :-) But there is still some space down south, so I'll see if I can include it in the next update. Thanks! Classical geographer (talk) 12:07, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great! Many thanks in advance! Brezelsuppe (talk) 15:48, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution[edit]

Dear Classical geographer,

Which name should I use for the attribution of an image of yours?

Thanks

Douwe

Dear Douwe, "Classical geographer", as my current username is, will do. Out of interest, where are you going to use the image, and which image is it? Classical geographer (talk) 17:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Classical geographer, This is the image I want to use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Deltawerken_na.png. Its for a article I want to submit to the Robotics and Automation Magazine (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/RecentIssue.jsp?punumber=100). The paper will be on dike inspection robotics and I find the image very nice to illustrate an important part of the Dutch water works. Thanks, best, Douwe — Preceding unsigned comment added by Douwedres (talk • contribs) 09:58, 15 June 2012‎ (UTC)[reply]
Dear Douwe, in that case maybe check with the journal whether they prefer attribution to the individual author, or to the webpage on Commons - the second is fine with me too, and it has the advantage of also giving the license details and other contributors (notably Open StreetMap, where the background comes from). Classical geographer (talk) 11:29, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Releasing SVGs[edit]

Hi, I see that you're still updating PNGs instead of uploading SVGs here. A number of your images are tagged

All images in this gallery could be re-created using vector graphics as SVG files. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

but it would obviously be better if you uploaded the vectors yourself, instead of having someone else recreate them. :) Foxyshadistalk 08:38, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am indeed. My software has difficulties creating proper SVGs; they always come out with errors. I could and will at some point switch to different software; until then, I upload new PNGs from time to time. If you want the (somewhat broken) SVG of a particular map, please feel free to ask, and I'll happily create and upload one. Classical geographer (talk) 10:10, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aangepaste dienstregeling[edit]

Hello Classical_geographer, I see you made some fine railwaymaps. Maybe you can recreate the map and information that can be found on http://web.archive.org/web/20130116065419/http://www.ns.nl/calamiteiten/calamiteitenpagina/detail. I would like to use that as an illustration on http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aangepaste_dienstregeling, because in this case words can not say as much as a visualization of the effects. Met vriendelijke groet, regards, Biccie (talk) 11:00, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Biccie,
Nice idea. Also quite a bit of work; let's see if the current reduced service pattern is stable over time. In the meantime, I think your article (excellent idea!) needs some reliable sources... Classical geographer (talk) 12:44, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Aangepaste dienstregeling for tomorrow can be found at http://www.ns.nl/calamiteiten/calamiteitenpagina/detail and looks similar to the one mentioned above. Met vriendelijke groet, regards, Biccie (talk) 21:53, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In your map the connection Erfurt-Kassel-Paderborn-Hamm is missing. Here go some ICE, which travel from Dresden via Erfurt-Kassel to Dusseldorf (ICE-T 1745/1746) and Munich via Würzburg-Kassel to Dortmund (ICE-W 1223/1224). The top speed is 160 km/h between Soest and Lippstadt it is 200 km/h. Please make an update. Thank you! --Mark McWire (talk) 11:09, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the detailed info! I'll try and add them this or next week. Classical geographer (talk) 08:54, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Classical geographer, I like your map of the Swedish railway system with the only comments that the Inland Line (still) offers scheduled services from Mora to Östersund, possibly the name "Marbäck" on the map (it is a village located somewhere else, no station). Kvillsfors is a village in Småland Province, not far from Vetlanda, but the final station is Vetlanda. Regards, Kalleaa (talk) 17:43, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template for the Delta plan[edit]

Hello I would like to create a template in the style of fr:Modèle:Carte/Port d'Amsterdam for the Delta Plan. It would look like your map with links. May I use your map ? Do you know a similar map with no writings.--Io Herodotus (talk) 18:41, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea! Well, I made File:Deltawerken_na.png with names, and File:Deltawerken_nu.png with numbers; I can also produce a blank version, if that suits you best. Just say the word. Classical geographer (talk) 14:48, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Classical geographer. I finally made another file fr:Modèle:Carte/Plan Delta. Thank you. --Io Herodotus (talk) 10:51, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. Like the inset also, bottom left. You might add the Belgian border on the main map as well; and the < signs are a bit small in the case of really large objects, like the Oosterscheldekering and the Volkerak complex. Classical geographer (talk) 12:04, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok for the borders. Concerning the < signs, they belong to the template and as far as I know, they can't be changed. This would have to be translated in English and in Dutch.--Io Herodotus (talk) 14:40, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File:Danmark maks. hastighed.png[edit]

Hello Classical geographer

I just saw your new map File:Danmark maks. hastighed.png, and I think I would like to point out a couple of things:

  • Kolding is not a railway junction (at least not since 1968). Instead the junction is in the neighbour city Lunderskov. Similar the junction for the line to Tønder is in Bramming.
  • The line between Lunderskov and Padborg has single track between Vamdrup and Vojens as well as between Tinglev and Padborg. The former part is going to get double track in the coming years.
  • The lines from Vejle and Esbjerg to Struer shares the track between Holstebro and Struer.
  • The maximal speed between Struer and Thisted is only 75 km/h.
  • The maximal speed between Hillerød and Hundested is 100 km/h.
  • The line between Hillerød and Snekkersten at helsingør is missing (max speed 100 km/h). Also you have written Helsingborg instead of Helsingør. Helsingborg is on the other side of Øresund in Sweden.
  • The S-train line between Copenhagen and Høje Taastrup beside of the main line is also missing (max speed 120 km/h).
  • The line between Roskilde and Kalundborg has double track between Roskilde and Hvalsø as well as between Vipperød and Holbæk. The part between Hvalsø and Vipperød is going to get double track as well later this year.
  • Regarding marking of railway junctions: Hillerød, Roskilde, Skanderborg, Skjern and Holstebro would be some of the obvious. Randers is technical a railway junction as well, but the nearest part of the side line to Allingåbro is closed while the rest is a heritage railway.

Yes, it is a lot of things. But I have been working with Danish railway maps for years, so I know a lot of details. But I must also admit that a map with maximal speeds and the numbers of tracks was missing. Of course several things in and around Copenhagen are missing on the map, but that was only to be expected. But perhaps you could create a separate map for the Copenhagen area then? You seems to be good at making maps, so it would be nice to see more from your hands. --Dannebrog Spy (talk) 21:35, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dannebrog Spy,
Many thanks for your very useful comments. I'll try to incorporate them this or next week. It's wonderful to have some detailed information from someone in the know - I had to rely on secondary sources, and some things slipped through. In the case of Vamdrup-Vojens I chose to be a bit early, but I'll add a note to show this is planned, not actual double track. And the Helsingborg issue... Oops. Classical geographer (talk) 18:58, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the relevant updates, I hope. Please don't hesitate to come up with more adjustments - I'm happy to comply. Classical geographer (talk) 20:15, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It looks good. Of course there will always be details, but that is also the case with my own maps. But other than that I would say that you have done a good job. --Dannebrog Spy (talk) 12:58, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Classical geographer. I noticed your map for the High-speed lines in Spain is very outdated. Last update is from July 2013. Since then there are many changes in the network with new operational high-speed lines. Moreover, the dates and the planned lines showed on the map need to be updated as well. The article en:AVE has been recently updated with lots of this information, you can see the current status there. Could you please update your file as well? I think it will be a good value for this and for other articles. Clicklander (talk) 14:18, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll definitely have a look! Classical geographer (talk) 14:21, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you too. Clicklander (talk) 16:40, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everybody, pls note that Valladolid is misspelled, and maybe Zaragoza as well (the final a may be covered by a the bullet). Can you fix it? -- Wassermaus (talk) 17:16, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An image that you have uploaded requires updating[edit]

Hi Classical geographer,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed one of your uploads is out of date. Could you update it? Thanks again. DieSachsen (talk) 13:39, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
File:ICEtracks.png

Um es etwas zu präzisieren: Zwischen Leipzig/Halle und Erfurt müsste rot, zwischen Halle und Nürnberg findet kein ICE Verkehr mehr statt. Würden uns freuen, wenn du es korrigieren könntest! Vielen Dank! --DieSachsen (talk) 13:54, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's on my list, the new high speed line was opened last weekend, but normally I try to be ahead of things :-) Thanks for the reminder! 81.68.165.232 18:31, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Classical geographer (talk) 10:48, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
However, I've done the PNG; I'm no good at all with SVG, and it seems File:ICEtracks.svg is the most used at the moment. If anyone wants to have a go at that, feel free! Classical geographer (talk) 10:55, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks alot! Nice work :) --DieSachsen (talk) 13:22, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:France TGV.png requires updating[edit]

Hi Classical geographer,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:France TGV.png is out of date. The second phase of the LGV Est opened on 3 July 2016. Could you update it? Thanks again. AHeneen (talk) 00:16, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear AHeneen, it's underway - see discussion above, to which the talk page of the map links directly. Classical geographer (talk) 13:11, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

+2 new railway opened in France! --B.Zsolt (talk) 20:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:ICEtracks.png (wieder mal)[edit]

--Metrancya (talk) 23:59, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Changed a few things to update the file. Marked the original SVG file as outdated, I could not use it due to font problems. --Metrancya (talk) 11:51, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Exporting from CorelDraw to SVG rarely works for me, unfortunately... perhaps I'll manage to convert the map to Illustrator some day, but with only minor tweaks it's not such an issue. Thanks for the updates, everyone. Classical geographer (talk) 10:35, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing svg with Inkscape. That works so far. Problematic are the fonts. Wikimedia sites only allow a limited number of open source fonts. The "Bitstream Vera" font family and the "Liberation" font family work for me so far although it doesn't look perfect. In the case of ICEtracks.svg it is probably the best choice to use "Liberation Sans". I will try it with the next update.... --Metrancya (talk) 20:13, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Territorial waters" vs. "territorial sea"[edit]

Hello, thanks for your graphic File:Zonmar-en.svg. I was wondering if you would consider changing the phrase "territorial waters" twice to "territorial sea". According to w:Territorial waters, the former term is ambiguous and ill-defined, while "territorial sea" is the legally defined term. Cheers, AxelBoldt (talk) 19:55, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! I wasn't aware of the issue, but I'll have a look and adjust it - thanks for the heads up. Classical geographer (talk) 19:57, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:East_African_Rail.png[edit]

There are two Mombasas marked on this map. I suspect the more westerly one should be Arusha? --PeterR2 (talk) 18:30, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! A copy-paste that went amiss... Can't correct this straight away, but thanks for notifying me! Classical geographer (talk) 18:29, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your contributions. According to TIB-S from 14.11.2023, page 244:

Delstrækning Strækningshastighed (km/h)
Aarhus H - Hobro 180
Hobro - Aalborg 120

But the drawing shows the northern stretch as having speed 120 km/h, and the southern stretch to have speed 160 km/h. What explains this discrepancy?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Can you upload the France TGV map as an SVG file?[edit]

Hello, thank you for uploading the File:France TGV.png file. I want to update it because the expected completion date of the Montpellier-Perpignan line has changed. However, it’s uploaded as a PNG file instead of the SVG file which was used as the source. Can you please re-upload the file as an SVG file so that it is easier to edit?
