First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|correct name}}
  • For more information read the full deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

Hello ChNPP, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Uploading "Retouched" versions[edit]

Hello. I have noticed that you upload quite some digitally altered (i.e. to make it look better) files which you obtained from existing files from Commons. Please note that if it is, without doubts, a simple colour/quality edit, you could simply click the "Upload a new version of this file" button to upload instead. The helps preserve the original file sources/uploaders and original page history. Thank you. Rehman(+) 10:30, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rehman, i understand it, but the image of the RBMK-Reactor at Ignalina is not the same than File:RBMK reactor from Ignalina ArM.jpg. ArM's Reactor has wrong colors, and this is an important Detail of this image. Thats the different controlrods, any rod have a different color and a different function. At ArM's image, you can not see the right colors. Regards ChNPP (talk) 16:48, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:VogtleCoolingTowers.jpg[edit]

Hallo ChNPP!

Nagut, so sollte alles stimmen ;-).

Russian NPPs[edit]

The great thanks for descriptions of fotos Balakovo NPP and Novovoronezh NPP II. You very much have helped me. I little correct this. Hullernuc (talk) 16:08, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Hullernuc, thats no problem. Your correction is okay, becase i hope you know, that CASTOR stands for „cask for storage and transport of radioactive material“. This is the detailes form of Trnsport Container ;). Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 16:42, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
difference in «spent» or «new» fuel. On foto new. Hullernuc (talk) 18:24, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, thats not new fuel. New fuel is transported in blue tubes, two form a pair. These Transport-Containers are very expensiv, and the radioactivity is very low, because the fuel was not already critically. So it don't needed to use such containsers. An by the way, the Containers on this image was build in germany. The containers were producted by the GNS and Siempelkamp. I think you must know this, because your russian user-site call to me, you work at a nuclear power station!? At which power plant? Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 18:36, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are right Dirk, I'm get wrong. You very competent, I'm gratefully surprise! From where you know all this? I'm work on Balakovo NPP. Hullernuc (talk) 16:48, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Hullernuc, not many people has tell this to me :D. I know this because russian nuclear technology is my "Hobby". What's your job at Balakovo? I find this very interesting. Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 17:56, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hobby its good, but its very extraordinary hobby i think :), and it is stranger that you prosperous in this hobby :). I think you very intelligent guy.
I'm work as the advanced engineer on control of reactor, not too long. After institute I'm worked as operator on reactor compartment, senior operator, engineer, and now advanced engineer. Hullernuc (talk) 20:23, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's very extraordinary :D, but i'm not the only. I know many other people who has nuclear power as hobby too. It's very interesting your job! My personal knowledge about VVER's is not very good. In the last years (since some 8 years) I employed mainly the RBMK-technology. The knowledge of VVER-Plants is very low, compared to RBMK-Plants. Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 21:54, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
hmm.. You can easy resize the image at paint. Open paint, instert the image (important: Don't opened the file directly with paint). So you see now a dashed border around the image. Click now on the right key on your mouse and resize the image to the size you want to have. But I don't touch this pictures. OTRS-Requestet images is not good to edit in big dimensions, but i don't understand, why you would resize the image!? Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 17:05, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Too detailed. Not good. Hullernuc (talk) 18:11, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If I'm resize, old version is will be accessible too? Hullernuc (talk) 18:24, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not good? Thats great, the image is very good to cut details of the plant and upload this as second file. And Yes, the image will be accessible too. The important detail: The Internet never forgets. Not in all events, but in this case. Best Regards ChNPP (talk) 19:41, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template:On Wikipedia[edit]

;) Beste Grüße ChNPP (talk) 07:11, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

File:OL3 11-2011.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Büste von Alexander v. Humboldt.jpg[edit]

Map of Pripyat measuring April 1986[edit]

Hi. Do you have more information about dose rate measurements made in Pripyat during 26-27 April 1986 (points 1 to 26)?. --NH35 (talk) 18:13, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for the late respone. I made this map originally for the german Nucleopedia, where I wrote a article about Pripyat. The measurements are already inside a Table here: https://de.nucleopedia.org/wiki/Pripjat . But by the way, there are even more maps here from page 19. But there are also even better maps here, from which I took the measurements out of the images on page 33 and put it in the table. But I hide this reference in the sourcecode of the article, because there are potential for additional maps for usw in Wikiedia, Nucleaopedia for uploading on Commons. but I don't have the time to draw it :(. Thanks for uploading File:ChNPP TZV user image.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:ChNPP TZV user image.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.
