As a courtesy to other editors, it is Commons:Signatures policy to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, deletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then automatically be added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.

Geodata[edit]

Why to delete files? Geohack and OpenStreetMap retrieve information from arguments to {{Location}}, not from image files. Just edit erroneous information out of File: pages. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 20:21, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Incnis Mrsi: What do you mean? The geodata is incorrect. How can I edit that information out? Additionally, I was only considering deletion as an option. I am considering all options. CartleR255 (talk) 20:31, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Incnis Mrsi (talk) 20:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Incnis Mrsi: There is no way to edit or remove erroneous metadata. I am going to overwrite those files which contain erroneous metadata and then propose the older versions for deletion. CartleR255 (talk) 20:39, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just upload correct image files over; cached wrong data will gradually die out. Should I again supply you with direct links to the uploading dialog? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 20:43, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Incnis Mrsi: Apologies for the inconvenience and incomprehension. So I should overwrite the existing files by using "Upload a new version of this file"? What should I say in the uploading dialog? CartleR255 (talk) 21:03, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this way. Put some text about right/wrong geodata to the summary (wpUploadDescription) text area. And do not forget to check all your File pages for remaining wrongly filled {{location}}s afterwards. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:07, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Incnis Mrsi: I have fixed Coscoshippingcontainer.jpg Is this what you meant? CartleR255 (talk) 21:16, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Coscoshippingcontainer.jpg is fine with me as far as you went, although some might wonder about the change in dimensions.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 21:29, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: Should I change dimensions back to original without metadata along with adding {{Edit request}}? Apologies for uploading many redundant versions. CartleR255 (talk) 21:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That depends on what you changed aside from the metadata. The thumbnails don't tell me.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 22:04, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You noticeably degraded Coscoshippingcontainer.jpg with a sequence of photoshoppings. Not a good way to work with JPEGs. See Help:JPEG for details; maybe will also look here morning-after. 22:14, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

@Incnis Mrsi: I modified the original file for each new edit I made to Coscoshippingcontainer.jpg I did not move the original copy between devices. I modified the original file and then reverted it back to its original state. Thus, each edit I made to the file started with the original, not with a modified version or different copy of the original. I did not use the Photoshop application either. Also, I uploaded the modified version to Commons from the same device where modification occurred. Therefore, because this situation is not consistent with the criteria for generation loss, I disagree that the file has noticeably degraded. Moreover, if generation loss did indeed occur it is so minor and negligible to the extent that it cannot be proven. Likewise, even the lighting/contrast/saturation/orientation modifications between different versions of this file are insignificant. -- CartleR255 (talk) 22:46, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It may be generation loss or not, but I see that the quality became worse. A you sure that the image was not resampled with rescaling or rotation? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:14, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Incnis Mrsi: Yes I am sure. I only used the original copy for each edit I made. If you would like I can show you the original copy against the edited versions such that you may select the one with the best quality. -- CartleR255 (talk) 14:04, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
