Thanks for uploading File:Protestvan3.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Protestvan3.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thumbnail generation problem[edit]

Yeah, there's an ongoing problem with the Wikimedia Commons servers. They seem to have a mind of their own. My trick has been to adjust the thumbnail size on Wikipedia of an image that won't refresh by a pixel or two, which forces the servers to generate a new thumbnail of the updated image. -Kudzu1 (talk) 01:45, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Calthinus!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:CountriesRecognizingNationalTransitionalCouncil.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Itoto.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Religion in Albania[edit]

Thanks for Your interesting maps!! Can You send or show me, where i can find for ReligiousGroups the MunicipalityResults of Census 2011, PLEASE!? Yours, Agricola Planitius. Agricola Planitius (talk) 17:45, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Agricola Planitius: , you can find them, and the results for many other Central and Eastern European countries, on pop-stat.mashke.org . Let me know if that works for you. --Yalens (talk) 19:32, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Found it, paradise gained - great! Thank You very much! Do You intend to make maps for Muslims and Byzantines and Bektaschi? Otherwise i would try my best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agricola Planitius (talk • contribs) 15:46, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By all means, make maps yourself haha. I am right now in the process of finishing up another Albania map that does map Bektashis and Halvetis among other linguistic and religious groups. Btw those stats are not reliable with regard to the Bektashi; very unfortunately there were reports of some very bad conduct in the way that census was carried out including some Bektashi individuals being pressured to identify with the generic "Mysliman" option rather than "Bektashi". There are also complaints from Orthodox Albanians, and Roma, and Greeks, and atheists. If you're interested in mapping the Bektashi, there are lists of Bektashi teqes you can find online like here https://sq.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lista_e_teqeve_bektashiane_n%C3%AB_Shqip%C3%ABri. I've been planning to make a map of the locations, by municipality, of Bektashi teqes and other major Bektashi sites (and Halveti ones too) but if you want to take that idea up, by all means be my guest. Happy mapping. --Yalens (talk) 03:49, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Btw another thing that needs to be done is the Bektashis in the wider Balkans -- there were many in Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, even some in Bosnia and Hungary. Hasluck and some other authors talk about this a lot. In general Wikipedia sadly tends to have not enough info on the Bektashinj. --Yalens (talk) 03:52, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I know about the problems around C'11, nontheless i might make maps (using simply "paint") of the 4 main groups as soon as possible. Mapping the Bektashi-teqes sounds interesting, so i am looking forward to Your publication!.Agricola Planitius (talk) 16:16, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Paint is what I use haha -- I think it's most in line with the Wikipedia spirit due to its ease of use. My general trend is to use one hue for a given group, at about 200-220 Saturation, and vary shade by their % in given region, so that darker means more of them, percent-wise, if you wanna be consistent. Also if you make an Orthodox map, don't call them Byzantines, that's actually a slur in some languages (it's pejorative in English too, actually)-- especially for non-ethnic-Greek Orthodox in the Balkans (Bulgarians, Slav Macs, Albanians) who have historically had conflict with Greeks over the latter's dominance, in the Ottoman church structures. Generally C'11 Orthodox and Bektashi maps will see a lot less usage on pages because of the controversy about this census, tho there will probs be another before Albania is in the EU. Anohter interesting map that needs to be done-- the non-affiliated responses (atheist, no check mark, "believers without sect", etc) by municipality. I also have data on the 1930s I can dig up if you want, though I think it's a lot less detailed. For any of them I can help with municipal locations if you'd like. I have an unfinished "Muslims" map didn't get far on it though. Btw I'll be publishing my latest map soon. --Yalens (talk) 18:28, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You! I published the 4 main denominations. Agricola Planitius (talk) 13:10, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Agricola Planitius: Hey-- great job with the maps. I did catch a few errors though.
For example -- the Zagori commune in the South near Pogon and Permet -- you have it as very few Orthodox, but actually in the 2011 census, it's one of the most heavily Orthodox regions 1 (use control F on "ZAGORI", altho idk if htat works on a German keyboard) -- 88.56% to be exact, whereas currently on the map it looks like 0%. Also the name is "Zagorie" on the map which doesn't match the commune's official name.
Another issue is district boundaries. They changed-- I suspect the map represents the 2015 boundaries but the census was in 2011 so actually what the makeup of certain municipalities are is different. This is relevant in places like Zavalin, for example. In most places this isn't critical. For the Orthodox map, this might overrepresent them in that part of Elbasan because Zavalin expanded considerably (although admittedly the parts it expanded into from Gjinar are actually traditionally Ortho, as is most of Gjinar actually)
I think it's also really important to include a color gradient legend -- for example as I did on the Catholic map (although I've realized there are two quick things I gotta fix there). That way readers know what colors represent what percent ranges, making it much more informative. It also makes it a lot easier for yourself and others to verify it. The few maps I didn't include a gradient for I was kicking myself.
Don't want to only criticize though, great work man (and where'd you find the map to draw on? I'd been looking for that). Have a great day,--Yalens (talk) 16:32, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

this is fair, the original uploader Peditom did not cite the involved genetic studies. But I just added an updated version of the map. If you want I can cite the studies I used for my update -- namely Battaglia 2008, Yunusbaev 2011, Lobov (via en wiki), Karachanak 2013 for Bulgarian regions, Cinnioglu 2004 for Turkish regions, Ramos-Luisa 2009 for French regions etc. At the same time, Mau has uploaded a much better and sourced R1b map since, so I'm not super invested in keeping this one around. --Calthinus (talk) 15:59, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
