File:Stéphan Bureau, Marie-Soleil Dion, Véronique Claveau et Émily Bégin dans la salle Pierre-Mercure Montréal.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Your account has been blocked[edit]

You are blocked from uploading content. You can continue editing in other ways. --Yann (talk) 20:26, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request declined

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.

Request reason: "Last May, I have been addressed by police to stop taking pictures of people and would only contribute to car pictures since then, for photography. This ended my 11 years of paparazzi. As of today, I will no longer upload photos of celebrities or other people, shifting only towards uploading cars. We will also have to have all my celebrity photos taken down within my 11-year paparazzi run. -- Bull-Doser (talk) 05:22, 7 March 2024 (UTC)"[reply]
Decline reason: "This block (limited to file uploads) was the result of a community discussion. It is not reasonable or appropriate to expect a such a block to be overturned with this meagre and hasty request. 1) You failed to participate meaningfully in that discussion (limited to [1][2]); 2) You remain able to open a new discussion (again, the block is limited to file uploads); 3) Your request comes a mere ca. 9 hours after the block (as below, no attempt to demonstrate productive contributions respectful of Commons polices and guidelines); and 4) Related to the foregoing, the request does not demonstrate the issue is understood or provide reason to believe the commitment ("I will no longer upload photos of celebrities or other people") is credible. To the contrary, in assessing credibility, you say "I did not participate in the conversation that was made last month because I didn't know there was one", yet you were informed and indeed commented there (diffs above). Эlcobbola talk 15:55, 7 March 2024 (UTC)"[reply]

So last May you were approached by the police over your photography. You never thought to mention that in the thread discussing blocking you? You also kept on uploading images of people here, after having been warned by the police that there was a problem. So I would strongly oppose any unblock! Andy Dingley (talk) 11:21, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose for now. You should edit in some other ways for a while to show that you respect laws and Commons policies. Yann (talk) 13:30, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And what if I took down the celebrity photos?? -Bull-Doser (talk)
Bull-Doser, I understand that you want your account to be unblocked for uploading. You have missed quite a few opportunities to vouch for yourself. In order to help the community with this process, you will have to provide answers to these questions :
  • The first request on the Admin's noticeboard was posted on February 14th, and you were duly notified. The request was open for discussion for three whole weeks, during which you made over 200 edits. Can you explain why you have not intervened in the discussion at least to report that you somewhat tried, or have been asked to shift away from photographing people?
  • You proposed in the present discussion a bargain in which you would take down the celebrity photos in exchange for an unblock. Even though the decision is not up to you but to the community, can you explain why you have not proposed such ways in the Admin's noticeboard discussion in order to prevent the blocking of your account?
  • You wrote that you were met by the police last May regarding the photography of people. Assuming this meeting occurred before May 31st, I count 45 uploads of photos of people since then. Can you explain why you have went on with the uploading of pictures of people even after having been met by the police for that matter?
I hope you understand that the care you put in answering these questions will help the community to formulate their arguments in favour or opposing the unblock request. Webfil (talk) 14:37, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, car pictures are officially my life on Wikimedia Communs even though I began celebrity photos to photograph and upload six years later from cars and there are so many photos from past car shows that are officially important For Wikipedia. Car pictures are way more important than people and I upload car pictures daily. A venue in Montréal last May, the Aux Écuries Theatre called the police, forcing me to visit the station in the borough Villeray/St. Michel/Parc Extension (same borough as theatre) the following week. -- ~~ Bull-Doser (talk) 14:53, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bull-Doser. This does not answer any of the three questions I asked above. I will repeat them in other words :
  • Why did you not participate in the discussion about the blocking of your account?
  • Why did you not propose alternatives to the blocking earlier?
  • Why have you pursued the uploads of people after having been met by the police?
Webfil (talk) 15:02, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not participate in the conversation that was made last month because I didn't know there was one and you forgot to remind me after I responded the Billy Woods photo last month.
I have pursued to take celebrity photos 11 years ago at the beginning of May 2012 after an April 2012 car show in the Fabreville district of Laval as I went in their McDonald's on Curé-Labelle Rd. seeing a pic of former singer Jacynthe Milette-Bilodeau inside a McDonald's. I have continued pursuit to continue uploading celebrity photos on the Commons after a paparazzi carrer conclusion last May. -- Bull-Doser (talk) 15:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bull-Doser, you mean you did not at least check once in a while the open discussion about you on COM:AN/U and were waiting for another notification? This is hard to figure for a user that has been around in the Commons community for 18 years. You did not put that page on your watchlist? You did not hit the "subscribe" button at the top of a topic that pushes alerts to your account whenever there is a new post in that topic?
Anyhow, you are still not answering the third question : even after the police thing, you still uploaded photos of people; why? --Webfil (talk) 15:40, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because I still had more time after the police report of last May when my paparazzi carrer finished as uploading poople was still part of my post-paparazzi career. Despite the unblock request denied, how Will I be unblocked from uploading? - Bull-Doser (talk)
@Bull-Doser, do you understand that if people called the police on you, it is most likely because they were hurt, mad or scared of your behaviour? Do you feel sorry that you may have hurt, annoyed or scared other people or you feel sorry that you were caught? Can you tell the difference between the two? Please use the proper indentation (the columns ":" at the beginning of your message) in order for the discussion to be legible by other users. --Webfil (talk) 16:30, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I abruptly left the venue last May on the day before Mother's Day before police called one or two days later upon my dad notifying me. -- ~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bull-Doser (talk • contribs)
@Bull-Doser : You seem to have haphazard comprehension of the issues at hand. Maybe take that block as an opportunity to reflect upon your actions and how they affect other people in the real life and in the Commons community. I can understand that this is not how you want things to go, but please take the time needed to think about how they went and why they went that way. --Webfil (talk) 17:16, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did that career afford you the opportunity to buy and use a better camera, with higher resolution, better performance in low-light situations, and slower shutter speed? See COM:HR.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:39, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • You were pinged on 29th Feb, when the proposal to ban you from uploading was made. You would have been notified at that point. This was done deliberately so that you would be notified, and so that you'd be able to respond. Also so that you wouldn't be able to claim afterwards that you hadn't been made aware of this. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:33, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And still, how could I be unblocked? Can You reduce the block expiration? It's no longer For photos of people! -- Bull-Doser (talk) 18:25, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd engaged with the discussion at AN/UP then you could have made a case that you would avoid photographing people. But you chose not to. So now, there it is. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:39, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can I have the link, please? I said About me stopping To photograph people last May because of police report issues. -- Bull-Doser (talk) 18:56, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Stating the accidental block last month you only forgot to tell me and last month's Valentine's Day subject was only regarding the Billy Woods photo as I responded. In fact, there is a car show for me to attend in the Earth Day Weekend next month with EVs & plugin hybrids in the Olympic Stadium and my photos from January's auto show inside Palais Des Congrès need very important uploading. -- Bull-Doser (talk) 19:35, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • The AN/UP thread is linked twice in this section. I can't make sense of your first sentence here.
We don't need or want your car photos either. They're terrible quality and almost entirely unusable. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:56, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As for me, I would not want to add insult to injury here. This user has been uploading automobile images since 2006, and many of them seem to me to be as good or better as other images in those vehicle categories. That's not an argument to unblock, just to not be unkind. Shawn à Montréal (talk) 22:23, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They’re not “terrible” or “almost entirely unusable” but they’re so mediocre they’d never be my (or anyone’s) first choice. So no, we don’t need or want them. Dronebogus (talk) 16:42, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bull-Doser, Shawn à Montréal, and Dronebogus:
I've criticised Bull-Doser's car images in the past. They're still not great, and there are still quality control issues, but IMHO many would be perfectly acceptable in the absence of anything better.
(Edit; to clarify, I'm saying that Bull-Doser's more recent car photos have improved *slightly* in terms of quality and consistency, compared to some of the worst examples of the older ones.)
(The problem is that we usually *do* already have better quality images, so we don't need another ten snapshots of the same model just because they have a different plumber's livery!)
Still, it's clear that the main reason for the ban was the "paparazzi" images (i.e. their dreadful quality and privacy /consent issues).
The car images *might* not have been banned on their own, but they probably weren't good enough to justify the extra work that would have been required to (possibly) ban one but not the other.
That's unfortunate, but I can understand why the decision was made in favour of a total upload ban.
