File:Espoir and Liguria[edit]

Well done on upgrading this image. However complete images should not be overwritten, with what is a cropped image. Should be a seperate upload in fact. Can you fix that please. Broichmore (talk) 13:25, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my bad. I'll get that sorted out.

  • edit: only one problem, there are no higher resolution pictures of the complete version AGH (i am somewhat new to commons and dont know the full workings of it yet) Browhatwhyamihere (talk) 13:32, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When it comes to art, there are complete pictures and they aas the artist intended them to be viewed, the full image and caption, every thing else is a cropped version, and therefore inferior to some extent, quality of the image is seperate to that.
The complete version, can be a poor copy, it will get replaced through time. Poor copies are still good for reference purposes, they do several things they specify whether or not the core image is complete or cropped. They show and prove the original title, author , printer, publisher in the caption. Signatures are evident, even illegible ones show their palcement. These files us the artwork template, and should have full attribution. Incidentally, we also carry hand coloured prints as several different files, hand coloured prints are always unique in their choices of colour, and at times their details, are subtly different. We don't overwrite one museums copy with another, and its not uncommon for museums to have more than one print of a specific image. Hope thats understandable.
