Warning

Hi Bodhisattwa. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. When you want to delete a file with the {{Delete}} template, you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion. Alternatively, you can click the "Nominate for deletion" link in the left sidebar, under the "tools" section, which does all of the work for you. Please do one of these, otherwise you create a lot of work for other people. If you don't see the "Nominate for deletion" link in the left sidebar, you can use the JavaScript method of enabling AjaxQuickDelete on Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets once and then refresh once.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:36, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:40, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2021

Hallo Bodhisattwa,

@Llez: , the result has been declared here. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 12:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
Disappointing selections, just like the previous year and year before etc. Actually such selections are a great disservice and discouragement to photographers who want to upload good pictures. There is something fundamentally wrong in the way the contest in India is conducted. Anyway I have decided not to participate in your contest going forward and stop pestering me with WLM participation notices every year -- Dey.sandip (talk) 14:52, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dey.sandip: , I apologize if the results for consecutive years have not met your expectations. The jury decision is final and as organizers, we respect them as it is. If you feel that something is fundamentally wrong or want us to change anything, please feel free to let us know. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 15:10, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Bodhisattwa What is fundamentally wrong is the selections, majority of the photographs selected are vanilla and in some cases they are overprocessed (over saturated, over sharpened). If you ask me to be brutal is that none of them have much wow. This is also the reason none of these entries that you have sent to WLM International will do well like the previous years. In year 2017, the jury was different and they took bold steps to include photos with events and people and went beyond the vanilla shots of structures. You could see the results for yourself at the international level (an Indian photo won). I won't talk about disappoints about my photographs (I just sent one entry but in my view it was worthy as well). But I have become used to such things from WLM India. I would like to get some insights on what these juries voted on the various pictures this year. How did some of the images just missed the bus? Or were some worthy images not even sent for jury review (the initial sorting of 1870 images or so). Wikipedia is public knowledge, you should share voting data on request. I will tell you what is fundamentally wrong then. -- Dey.sandip (talk) 16:00, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dey.sandip: , Let me explain the review process first. The tool we use filtered out around 500 images at the beginning, which were less than the threshold of 6 Mpx resolution, which we had declared before the competition. Next, the initial sorting was done by the organizers so that the jury members don't have to take the load of reviewing more than 4500 images themselves. The initial sorting was done to filter out images with watermarks, out of scope images, over-exposured or under-exposured images, badly tilted photographs etc. which are obvious basic criteria. Majority decision was taken into account there. The organizers didn't over-zealously filtered out any worthy images randomly. Then the sorted images were forwarded to the jury members to be reviewed in three rounds. In these rounds, the decisions from the three jury members were averaged and taken into account. Organizers didn't have any role then or interfered them anytime during the process. Regarding your concern, we are always open to discussion so that the review process can be improved. If you have time to discuss the matter, I can arrange a meeting with other organizers and at least one jury member. I am sure, even within our very limited capacity as volunteers, we can work on your valuable feedback and make improvements for next year. Please let me know if you find some time to have a call. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 16:37, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Bodhisattwa No, let it be. I anyway don't have any interest in this anymore. It will be a wastage of everybody's time to discuss this further at this time. If you really want to discuss, may be we can take a call before the next year's WLM provided I am around. Lastly, all the best to all the entries for WLM International. -- Dey.sandip (talk) 06:54, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dey.sandip: , sure, I will contact with you before next year's WLM to have a call with you. Thank you for your wishes. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 14:56, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
