Please keep sort keys[edit]

Hello. That "TEXT" in "[[Category:Something|TEXT]]" causes the category to be sorted in Category:Something as if it was Category:TEXT. Please do not remove it (since you seem to be doing it manually and not with a script). --AVRS (talk) 20:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.

You know - I thought of those keys as specific for that category.--Biktora (talk) 01:37, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You see, they are there so that "Screenshots of GNOME" and "GNOME screenshots" are both under G, which applies in both of the parent categories. --AVRS (talk) 12:41, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - I see. But it takes an additional effort to take care of that. It was just lazyness that I didn't. Maybe I'll try to take care of this in the future...--Biktora (talk) 23:42, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As for a script, for single edits like adding, replacing or removing a category, you can use the JS script HotCat (available as a gadget in your prefences). IIRC, it preserves the sort keys (of course, it can't tell if the new category needs the same key).

A minor note (my personal opinion, your mileage may vary): I think that moving stuff in a page around (e.g. putting all the existing category entries to the bottom) is not always useful, because it makes the diffs less readable. Also, in galleries and categories, where there are interwiki links, the interwiki links cannot be at the bottom like in Wikipedia — probably categories should, because people use HotCat, and HotCat adds categories to the bottom.

More on the diff readability: User_talk:Jean-Frédéric#Normalization_or_strong_wikification.

I just focus much more on readability of the actual source code than that of the diffs.--Biktora (talk) 01:37, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, no problem. --AVRS (talk) 12:41, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.
