Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
- In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
- In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

Olá. Já vi que não tiveste qualquer dúvida em considerar a minha escolha de há seis anos um caso de "wrong name" e avançaste para renomear as categorias. Ora bem, temos agora, em substituição de um topónimo anglicizado que não chateia ninguém, o nome original mas numa ortografia que, como qualquer outra, vai sempre suscitar polémica. Tu achas que "A Coruña" é que é, mas depois vem outro que quer "La Coruña" (e sabemos bem que destes há muitos e cada vez mais), e depois há quem diga que devia ser "A Corunha" (ou mesmo só "Corunha" — cp. isto), já para não falar dos que preferem "A Crunha" (ou sei lá o quê). Portanto, “bom trabalho” — afinal estamos aqui para brincar às polémicas, não para trabalhar na curadoria de imagens e outros media. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 12:04, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- Moi boas @Tuvalkin: . Sobre o tema que me comentas a miña acción só de debe para corrixir un nome que claramente estaba mal e para unificar os criterios de categorización. Certo é que cada un terá as súas preferencias e cada un na súa vida pode usar o nome que prefira, pero neste caso en concreto o topónimo oficial é A Coruña, e todas as categorías relacionadas coa cidade ou a provincia en Commons levan esa forma, polo que entendo que non tería sentido ningún categorizar co nome que a cada un lle apeteza. Non sería nin correcto nin útil. E por último creo que non creei ningunha polémica ao facer ese cambio, nin tiña intención de facela, e coido que o non deberías dicir tan á lixeira que estou aquí para crear polémica e non para traballar no proxecto porque é algo falso e de feito é a primeira vez que mo din nos máis de 10 anos que levo por aquí. Du får det här meddelandet eftersom du tidigare har bidragit med bilder till den svenska deltävlingen av Wiki Loves Earth. Jag hoppas att du vill vara med i år också! Som vanligt ingår naturreservat och nationalparker i tävlingen – men i år har vi också lagt till biosfärområden och naturminnen! Tävlingen börjar 1 maj, och pågår under hela maj månad. Om du har varit ute i världen och rest kan du även se om resorna sammanfaller med övriga internationella deltävlingar, och i så fall vara med och tävla även där. Du får det här meddelandet då du tidigare har deltagit i de svenska deltävlingarna av Wiki Loves Monuments eller Wiki Loves Earth! För någon vecka sedan blev det klart vem som tog hem förstapriset i Wiki Loves Earth 2020 – stort grattis till Brydand100 och hans fotografi av Röttlefallet! Alla vinnare kan du se här – tack alla deltagare för fina bidrag!
Den 1 september inleds 2020 års svenska deltävling av Wiki Loves Monuments, där det skulle vara väldigt roligt om du ville vara med och delta! Målet med Wiki Loves Monuments är att fotografera svenska kulturarvsmonument. De kategorier som ingår är byggnadsminnen, fornminnen, K-märkta fartyg och arbetslivsmuseer – och du är välkommen att bidra med bilder hela september.

- O procedemento usar o sistema OTRS, agora co xerador automático de correos é moi sinxelo, tan só ten que ir a Commons:Wikimedia OTRS release generator e ir cubrindo os datos que se piden nas pantallas. Iso xera un correo electrónico co texto correcto que hai que mandar á xente de OTRS (o enderezo tamén aparece nesas pantallas). Se tedes calquera dúbida preguntádeme e xa vos conto. Parece que has intentado crear esa categoría, pero no lo has conseguido. Si estás interesado, te sugiero que lo intentes de nuevo, aunque sólo para un año y para tres fotos, dudo que tenga interés. Y lo mismo para Ponte Caldelas (con una foto)

Årets WLM-jury har efter hårt kämpande och stor vånda kommit till ett resultat, och på fredag 11 december, 10.00 (SNT), tar vi första steget i tillkännagivandet när vi i en livestream på youtube presenterar de tio bilder som går vidare till internationella finalen. Du, och alla andra, är välkommen att vara med när bilderna presenteras av Eric Luth och Johanna Berg.

Du får det här meddelandet eftersom du tidigare har bidragit med bilder till den svenska deltävlingen av Wiki Loves Earth. Jag hoppas att du vill vara med i år också! Som vanligt ingår naturreservat och nationalparker i tävlingen – samt förra årets uppdateringar med biosfärområden och naturminnen! Tävlingen börjar 1 maj, och pågår under hela maj månad. Om du har varit ute i världen och rest kan du även se om resorna sammanfaller med övriga internationella deltävlingar, och i så fall vara med och tävla även där. På grund av Covid-19 kan inga gemensamma evenemang anordnas i år heller, så passa på att fotografera naturen i ditt närområde – eller varför inte damma av fotoalbumen och tävla med bilder du har tagit tidigare?

Du får det här meddelandet eftersom du tidigare har bidragit med bilder till de svenska deltävlingarna av Wiki Loves Earth eller Wiki Loves Monuments. Jag hoppas att du vill vara med i år också! Som vanligt ingår naturreservat och nationalparker, biosfärområden och naturminnen i tävlingen! Utöver bästa foto belönar vi även fotograferande av tidigare ofotograferade objekt samt bästa bildserie om minst tio fotografier av samma objekt. Tävlingen börjar 1 maj, och pågår under hela maj månad. Om du har varit ute i världen och rest kan du även se om resorna sammanfaller med övriga internationella deltävlingar, och i så fall vara med och tävla även där. Expeditioner, fotosafari eller en helt vanlig promenad? Via en smidig karta som visar ditt närområde hittar du bra ställen att besöka – eller varför inte damma av fotoalbumen och tävla med bilder du har tagit tidigare?
