@Colin: Not really. Unfortunately I've been very busy lately. Only a starry sky shot from my last ski trip, but nothing exceptionnal. Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer[edit]

Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

FP Pano[edit]

I get the notice about "preparing a better version" but no better version comes. I do not get the sharpness I would expect when I zoom in. I suspect this is a problem with the viewer. -- Colin (talk) 20:32, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Colin: I do get it too, but I was able to get it full size I think (very good amount of details). I suspect the viewer first downloads a small version of the pano for a quick rendering and then gets the large one in background. Maybe the download fails when the picture is too big. Miles is right when he says the picture is too big (but I don't mean he's right to oppose) ; compression settings could be better. I could have done it, but I am trying to fix some stitching errors and the central light before reuploading. I wonder if the pano viewer could be embedded right in articles. The equirectangular projection is misleading to say the least. Even Facebook has it working properly. Maybe something to ask the folks of MediaWiki. - Benh (talk) 20:39, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Colin: You look to be right. I can't get the high res version to be displayed on the panorama viewer now. Is it because I uploaded a new version and a scheduled task hasn't yet created the necessary "thumbnails" ? A look at my network activities doesn't reveal any background downloading.
