Image:VanillaFlowerLongitudinalSection.jpg[edit]

Yug (talk) 21:09, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On tente d'organiser ceci. Voila. --Yug (talk) 03:18, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, B.navez, gratulation for your excellent picture. It ist possible for you, to create a botanical latin - caption? (perhaps also a german version) Greetings Orchi 22:24, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

..hello, B.navez, thank's for your quick answer. In the next days I will give an answer to you. Thanks and greetings. Orchi 22:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

... hello, B.navez, today I send the german translation of your "VanillaFlowerLongitudinalSection" to you. The latin version follows.

Your question for the pollinies: I don't no. The pollen are very small. I try to obtain more information.

german version:

 • longitudinal section of a vanilla flower = Längsschnitt einer Vanilleblüte
 • upper sepal = dorsales Kelchblatt
 • right/left lower sepal = rechtes/linkes laterales Kelchblatt
 • labellum = Lippe
 • right/left petal = rechtes/linkes Kronblatt
 • anther (with pollen) = Anthere (mit Pollen)
 • rostellum (membrane) = Rostellum
 • stigma = Narbe
 • column (or gynandrium) = Säule (oder Gynostemium)
 • ovary (to be the bean) = Fruchtknoten (spätere Kapseln)
 • ovules (to be the seeds) = Samenanlage (ovula)
 • width of some sepals and petals has been reduced to make the picture clearer = Um die Abbildung deutlicher zu machen, wurde auf die Darstellung weiterer Kelch- und Kronblätter verzichtet.

Greetings. Orchi 22:08, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Latein folgt. Merci beaucoup und viele Grüße Orchi 19:17, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, B.navez, and now the version in botanical latin. I hope, it ist correct.

botanical latin version:

 • longitudinal section of a vanilla flower = Sectio longitudinalis: Flos Vanilla planifolia
 • upper sepal = Sepalum dorsale
 • right/left lower sepal = Sepalum laterale dextrum / Sepalum laterale sinistrum
 • labellum = Labellum
 • right/left petal = Petalum dextrum / Petalum sinistrum
 • anther (with pollen) = Anthera (cum Pollinium)
 • rostellum (membrane) = Rostellum
 • stigma = Stigma
 • column (or gynandrium) = Columna (Gynostemium)
 • ovary (to be the bean) = Ovarium (Capsula)
 • ovules (to be the seeds) = Ovula
 • width of some sepals and petals has been reduced to make the picture clearer = Sine omnia petala et sepala

Greetings. Orchi 19:47, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, B.navez, thank you very much for your very good pictures. There is in the latin version a little error: Gymnostemium ---> Gynostemium. No problem for you. Your picture in the german version is in the meantime part of the german main article de:Orchideen. Viele Grüße Orchi 12:34, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! As you uploaded many plant photos from Réunion, I hope you can help with identification of this plant from Réunion. It looks like Helianthus, but the photo does not show much of the plant. And I do not know, which species are occurring on Réunion - native, naturalized and cultivated. Maybe, you have an idea? Regards --Franz Xaver 08:17, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree, this is Tithonia diversifolia. But now I have another problem: Maybe I made a mistake, when I named this photo Tithonia diversifolia. I did this because of the similarity of the flowers to this photo, as the leaves to the left side of the flower head also seem to be tripartite and as there could be this apically thickening of the peduncles at the left bottom margin of the photo. But now I am not sure any more. Either these photos show different species or different stages of flowering. What do you think? Thanks for your help. Best regards --Franz Xaver 19:38, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I removed this other photo from Tithonia diversifolia. So I have to wait for a better idea. Thanks --Franz Xaver 08:15, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eugenia brasiliensis[edit]

Hi. We know here E. brasiliensis as grumixama. E. involucrata is called cereja (cérisier), or cereja-do-rio-grande (a state in southern Brasil). --Ligia 23:06, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello B.navez! In my opinion this plant is Gossypium hirsutum, not Gossypium herbaceum. According ot this key (PDF), epicalyx teeth are too long and narrow for G. herbaceum. Moreover, leaves of G. herbaceum are lobed more deeply. G. hirsutum has been found on Réunion: there is one herbarium specimen in the Tropicos database. Regards --Franz Xaver 21:47, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kerguelen images[edit]

Salut! It is obvious that you've visited Kerguelen Islands and made a lot of pictures... I wrote nearly the complete German Kerguelen article which does include many of the images you contributed to Wikipedia. This article requires two more images of Port-Jeanne d'Arc station and L'arche des Kerguelen (what is left of...). If you own images of it please upload it for a common use on Wikipedia! To me it's not possible due to the fact I never set a foot on Kerguelen. Unfortunately... By the way, thank you for uploading the images of Bernhard Herrmann's grave, it answered some questions I had on this southernmost German soldier grave... Demande de reproduction de photo “SalersBreed Cow 3”[edit]

Dear B.navez,

My apologies for writing in English. I would be glad to receive a reply in either French or English. I write from Focus Publishing, a college-level textbook publisher in Newburyport, MA, USA.

We are developing a textbook for second-year French that integrates language learning with a study of French film. One chapter in this book is focused on the film “Etre et avoir.” Our author would like to use your photograph captioned “SalersBreed Cow 3” on Wikimedia Commons as an illustration for this chapter.

I write to request permission from you to reprint your photo in our textbook, and am hopeful you could provide us with a high-resolution file (minimum 600 DPI) for this image. Please also let us know how you would like the credit line to appear.

You can contact me at kathleen@pullins.com; I would be glad to answer any questions you might have about either this project or Focus Publishing.

Your pictures about fruits to be published[edit]

Dear B. Navez, We found at Wikimedia some pictures uploaded by you (Image:Syzygium jambos.JPG; Image:Litchi chinensis (tree).jpg; and Image:Litchi chinensis fruits.JPG). Editora Sarandi (see below) intends to publish these photographs in a book about fruit trees, in Portuguese, named "Árvores Frutíiferas Exóticas". The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. Bonjour,

Là encore, si tu as des exemples...

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Yeah, my bot can't read the permissions because they aren't always OK and they won't categorize the image. And, after all, a human brain should be better than a bot ones, so it (the human) should fix the license in a better way (but yes, I'm not so convinced in that point). However, as you can see, my bot has done nothing wrong when you have fixed the image (I wonder what has make you say it can't see when a licensed picture is re-loaded with corrections or addings because I don't see no further edits in the image's page). Please make me know, bye, --Filnik 20:16, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear B.Navez,

For the German Wikipedia I wrote an extensive article on de:Pringlea antiscorbutica, which now is running to receive an award. This would not have been possible without your exceptional pictures of this plant, so thank you very much for this.

During my work on the article I have edited one of your pictures, as it seemed to carry strong signs of age. I hope you are satisfied with the result. If not, please tell me, what is wrong or missing.

Scolopendra morsitans photo[edit]

Hey! It's not a Scolopendra morsitans. It'a a Rhysida specie. As You can see it has spiracles on 7th and 8th tergite, only Rhysida, Ethmostigmus and Alluropus has spiracles there. From body shape I guess Rhysida, 100% sure it's not a Scolopendra specie. Greg

Furcifer pardalis images[edit]

Hello,

I'm working on Palapeli, an open-source jigsaw puzzle game for the KDE desktop. As not all of our users have colorful images on their disk which are suitable for puzzling, we would like to distribute some colorful pictures along with the program. I found your pictures Image:FurciferPardalisFemale.JPG and Image:FurciferPardalisMale.JPG very suitable for this purpose. I'm well aware about the fact that the GFDL permits me to immediately copy the pictures into my source tree, as long as I keep the license and attribute your work properly; but I want to hear what you think about my idea and esp. if you want to have your full name in the attribution. -- Stefan Majewsky (talk) 13:14, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renamings[edit]

Thank you for identifying the flora and proposing to address its filename. I intend to reupload my images as they become positively identified, but I tend to give it some time because there have been some occassions where people wrangle back and forth with its true identity. I have renamed these images and tagged the old ones. The new images have been renamed to be language-neutral and also include a numerical identifier, which serves both for my own reference as well as to reduce the possibilities of conflict with other files' names. Cheers! --Bossi (talkgallerycontrib) 12:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Renaming of Blossoms IMG 8543.jpg[edit]

Thanks very much for the headsup and very informative name of the flower, I must admit, I myself have been pondering for months over the exact name of this particular specie of flower, therefore the inexplicit naming of "Blossoms". I'm no expert on flowers, but since you have given the exact name of it, (Which I hope it is correct) I don't see any reason not renaming it to File:Caesalpinia pulcherrima flowers. Go ahead and change its file name.

Thanks.

Hello, B.navez!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

My name is Rita Neves. I work in Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, that is a Public Organism in Portugal. Actually, we are working on a road book of Biodiversity of Lisbon, for which we are going to produce a panel and a brochure. We found your photos on Wikimedia Commons and liked specially one of them very much, so we would like to know if you could allow us to use your photos, for free, to publish on this project, knowing that the brochure of will be for free distribution to everyone. The photo we are considering to use are the following:

The brochure will have four brackets. - Broochura a pocket to take the route - A brochure to present the day of inauguration

- Schedules for species identification
- Panels that will be fixed in the Land

As i said the Free Access will be everything :)

If you are the author and provide us that photo, we will refer your name in the bibliografy and we need to know what´s the name you want on the bibliography? B. Navez? If it´s possible please respond to ritasoraia2001@hotmail.com or rita.neves@cm-lisboa.pt or here on Wikimedia.

Dear Bruno, the church in Port-aux-Français seems to appear as “Notre-Dame des Vents” in some sources, and as “Notre-Dame du Vent” in others. Could you please advise, which exactly is the correct (or more preferable) name to use – “Notre-Dame des Vents” or “Notre-Dame du Vent”? Best, Apcbg (talk) 08:37, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear user,
according to official references, the right name is "Notre-Dame des Vents". I take it from this very reliable website which refers itself to the report of the Commission of toponymy. I regretfully don't hold this report for an ultimate checking but I personnally know the webmaster of kerguelen-voyages and take his assertions for certain. In addition the engraved inscriptions below the statue are actually "Notre-Dame des Vents".
We could add the building is not really a church but only a chapel, because it doesn't link to any parish and has been built on private intitiative.
Amazingly, the only grave that has been placed close to the entrance of the chapel is a muslim one.
Yours sincerely,
Bruno
Well I had the same impression but feel less certain now. And one could be mislead by one's memory sometimes, that's why it's better to have sources. For instance, you wrote that the statue's inscription reads “Notre-Dame des Vents” but this picture (which by the way is eligible for Wikimedia Commons uploading) says otherwise. Ok, I understand well now why there is such a discussion about the name of the chapel. But there is no failure in my memory. Obviously, the plate has been replaced during the 2000s anf the inscription has been changed. You may check it on older pictures like this one taken by the photographer André Fatras in 1987. However the right name is the one officially chosen by the commission of toponymy, the one used officially by the TAAF like on their stamps. Why this change recently on the inscription? Has the engraver simply made a mistake or has some people decided to recover the name originally wished by the builders. I don't know. --B.navez (talk) 09:57, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the explanation. So we may regard “Notre-Dame des Vents” as more authoritative, unless some new information appears. And yes, it's a chapel; my mistake, and I am amending the title of this topic accordingly. Best, Apcbg (talk) 07:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kerguelen cabbage photo[edit]

Hi B.navez, you've got some great pictures on Wikipedia, but I'd like to talk about one. On the page Pringlea antiscorbutica (the Kerguelen cabbage), you have put up a photo of the Kerguelen cabbages in the landscape of the island (this), but I see that this is an altered version of a original photo with someone in it (this one). I think that the original photo with the person is actually better then the "fake" version, for two reasons. Firstly the original is a higher resolution image (and we generally want as high as possible) and secondly, the adding of a person shows the true size and scale of both the plants and the landscape around. So I would suggest replacing the photoshopped version with the original. I was going to go ahead and do this, but I don't know who the person in the photo is and whether you edited them out for some reason (like not wanting to be on Wikipedia). So anyway, I thought I'd ask your opinion before doing anything. What do you think? --Hibernian (talk) 23:53, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, both pictures are available. So please don't change anything and just let people choose what is better for their articles on wikipedia projects.I am the person on the picture and I don't mind being seen. Cheers. --B.navez (talk) 16:18, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
