Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Anarchyte!

I made this logo for wikipedia. Here is the original logo. IDES--Dgarcia29 (talk) 12:14, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Could you explain me why did you want to delete it? Thank you.--Dgarcia29 (talk) 13:30, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
@Dgarcia29: You didn't give us any information that you made it, except the canned template. Please prove that you own the image before uploading it. Anarchyte (talk) 07:16, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
I uploaded it on the appropriate link "entirely my own work" and I put the correct template. I think this is enough and I should have put the reference. Can I recoverthe theimage? I delete the picture on my computer and now I have to draw it again.--Dgarcia29 (talk) 10:11, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. You have been over-zealous in this situation and I lost my work. You could help and monitor at once. Best regards--Dgarcia29 (talk) 17:23, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
@Dgarcia29: I wasn't pinged so I never got a notification about this discussion. When uploading logos that you made, you should go through OTRS because then it gives Commons proof of ownership. I could upload a file named "File:Soundcloud-logo.png" but if I don't back it up with written permission from Soundcloud it's a copyright violation (like the current version). You may have made the image but we don't know that. Anarchyte (talk) 13:06, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Organizing screenshots

I recommend organizing screenshots by type rather than by game. For example, "screenshots of" Crawl (video game) isn't as much of a distinction to split as screenshots of beat 'em ups or screenshots with pixel art, etc. This is to say that there are better ways to break down the category than "by game" czar 15:17, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

@Czar: I'm sorry, could you please reiterate that? If you're talking about putting screenshots of video games into a category like "Roguelike games", I didn't do that because Category:Crawl (video game) is in that category, and then Category:Screenshots of Crawl (video game) is then in that category. I set Category:Roguelike games as a Metacat because I believe it should only contain other categories. I also think Category:Video game screenshots should be a metacat and contain links to categories like Screenshots of Crawl because it'd be easier to navigate. I tried to move some images from Video game screenshots to more distinctive categories. Anarchyte (talk) 12:59, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
I didn't look through your contribs but I imagined that you were looking to sort some of the screenshots in the general category. I wanted to recommend that instead of making subcategories for screenshots of individual games (which would only make sense when the individual game category is itself too crowded—rare), instead sort into other subcategories of "video game screenshots", perhaps by genre or year or something. I think we can do more sorting in that regard, but I think the whole "video game screenshots by game" is a bad way to go about it, as it'll create far more subcats by game than is necessary. czar 18:10, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Tagging files

Hello, and thank you for your efforts in tagging files for speedy deletion. Just a minor note: please try to include a bit more information as possible e.g. a URL for an image that appears elsewhere but is being claimed as own work by an uploader. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 11:19, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

+1 on that request, saying "look at Google reverse image search" and not including the URL only means we have to do it all over again. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:02, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: If that was about the last 3 images I tagged, I didn't include a link because it wasn't loading for me. I thought I'd rather ask someone to check google images than supply a possible deadlink. Anarchyte (work | talk) 03:21, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
No worries!! I am so happy to see a new person helping!! And if you want I can offer some suggestion, just send us the entire URL from the top of the google search string, and what you see, will load for the admin. You do not have to go directly to image. You'll see people say "this is all over the (INTERNET)," and they're just giving us the general google overview! If there's anything, ever with which I can help you, please do not hesitate to contact me!! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:25, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Fragments of Him.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Steinsplitter (talk) 11:51, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

@Steinsplitter: It's got permission, look at the bottom of the presskit page (where I got the image from). I've left a more in-depth reply on your talk page. Anarchyte (work | talk) 12:01, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

File:Steelseries Rival 300 Fade Edition side on.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Congratulations, Dear license reviewer

If you use the helper scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Anarchyte, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! Green Giant (talk) 22:22, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Review files

Hi Could you review files from the Category:Samsung Galaxy A8 ? --Panam2014 (talk) 10:23, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

You have already reviewed File:Samsung Galaxy A8 (5).png. Could you review :
I reviewed the photos of just the back but noticed you've been discussing this with Leoboudv‎, too. I'd rather let them make the final decision rather than jumping in and reviewing them. Anarchyte (work | talk) 00:32, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear Anarchyte,

If you have time, please kindly review these two images of mushrooms that I uploaded. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:02, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: ✓ Done. Anarchyte (work | talk) 11:58, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

These 2 images

Dear Anarchyte, If you have some time, please mark these 2 images that I uploaded.

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 11:06, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Too easy, Leoboudv . Have a great day! Anarchyte (work | talk) 12:10, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Final images to mark?

Dear Anarchyte,

Can you please mark these final images that I uploaded today please?

I uploaded images of several Hypomyces fungi that Commons doesn't even have a photo of. Please help. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:52, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: Sure. I've already marked a few. Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:09, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks Anarchyte. Its just safer sometimes to have 2 different reviewers in case there is a future copyright problem like this Case where I reviewed an image now under DR. Now the youtube license has apparently changed...but fortunately there was a second different reviewer. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:32, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

4 images to mark?

Dear Anarchyte,

Can you please mark these 4 images since you were unable to mark the other images I uploaded yesterday. Your help is apprecaited.

Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:04, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: Done. Would you be able to review the two images in Category:Pocketwatch Games? Anarchyte (work | talk) 07:42, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

7 images to mark?

Dear Anarchyte,

Are you able to mark these 7 images that I uploaded. Commons has few images of these mushroom species such as this case or this case. So that is why I uploaded them...as an extra second, third or fourth image.

Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:56, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: Sure! Would you be able to review these I just uploaded? There might be an issue with the source link. If there is, let me know.
Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 06:59, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
  •  Comment: All the 5 images are marked. I saw the statement saying the license was cc by 3.0. The link might not work right now...but the license statement is very clear. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:05, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
@Leoboudv: Great. I only mentioned it might not work because I tried to archive it and got a 404. Perhaps private blog posts cannot be archived because of robots.txt. Anarchyte (work | talk) 07:08, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Some Admins did mention that robot.txt prevent the internet wayback machine from archiving a weblink on sites such as Mushroom Observer. I am about to sign off for bed but if possible please kindly mark this image below
  • File:Austroboletus lacunosus 613150.jpg

Thank You for your help, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:55, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

4 images?

Dear Anarchyte,

Can you help mark these images below? Commons has almost no images of these mushroom species.

Best Wishes, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:43, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

7 images for review

Dear Anarchyte,

If you have a bit of time, please review these 4 images of mushrooms that Commons has no images of.

By the way, which country do you live in? I am in Metro Vancouver, Canada. Best --Leoboudv (talk) 00:51, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: ✓ Done all but File:Russula ballouii 299485.jpg as the source link is incorrect. I'm in Australia. Anarchyte (work | talk) 06:26, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank You.

I have now corrected the source for: File:Russula ballouii 299485.jpg But I'll ask if someone else can mark it. Thanks for all your help, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:32, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Roland Boutique TR-08 & D-05 - Machines in Music 2017 (TR-08 crop).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

One deletion path

When asking a request for deletion, please just choose one path, either speedy or DR. If you put a DR in place, admins generally will allow that process to play on rather than later speedy. Typically, if an admin is not comfortable with a speedy delete, they will convert the request a speedy to a DR.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:58, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Billinghurst: I know, but I thought I'd help lower some of the backlog of DR by fast-tracking the deletion of an image that was used by an indef-blocked promo only account. Anarchyte (work | talk) 03:50, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Generally we are encouraged by the community to leave DRs to run, so many will just remove the speedy. So back to my original statement, please just pick the more appropriate, and let the process run.  — billinghurst sDrewth 08:52, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: Understandable, I'll keep that in mind for the future. Have a great day, Anarchyte (work | talk) 08:57, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.
