January theme[edit]

We are considering the theme for January at Commons talk:Photo challenge. Could you explain your theme suggestion a bit more. I have some concerns about it that I've listed there. -- Colin (talk) 16:21, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The idea was to illustrate the multiple aspects of winter, mainly those directly or inditectly connected with atmospheric conditions. But maybe it is too elaborate and complex as a single theme. What about "STORM" ? -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 21:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Having had two storms in the last couple of weeks, I'm sort of praying we don't have any more, and have no intention of going out with my camera only to have some tree fall on me! :-) Were you thinking one person might submit a set of pictures round those different "elements"? Hmm. I think the idea of asking for submissions of a set of photos round a complex theme might be quite an advanced and creative thing. Perhaps something for later when things have matured a little. -- Colin (talk) 22:54, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alvesgaspar! Could you please fix this montage? For each part of a montage an internal source/author/license is needed. Please take a look at File:Collage Rome.jpg as an example how to do it. See Commons:Collages for details. Thx. Gunnex (talk) 00:22, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alvesgaspar! I added the sources (for you :-)). Please consider to look at [1] + [2] with thousands of deletion requests regarding unsourced montages and collages and in the most cases, the source files were grabbed somewhere from internet, violating copyrights. You are certainly - as a respected and valued contributer - an exception but I hope that you understand my concerns. Thank you. Gunnex (talk) 22:05, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks,

Je m'éxcuse de ne pas avoir répondre. Malheureusement je n'ai pas d'animation svg (ça existe?). Tout ce que j'ai sont les images individuelles CorelDraw. -- Alvesgaspar (d) 08:45, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

==========================[edit]

Bonjour,

Désolé j'ai mis du temps à revenir ici. :-/

Merci d'avance

Cordialement --Eric Brosselin (talk) 13:38, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo Challenge 3rd Place[edit]

Photo Challenge Winner
Congratulations! Your picture File:Porto Covo January 2014-10a.jpg won the 3rd place in the Photo Challenge January, in January 2014. You can find the results of the challenge here.

Hi, long time no contact :-). I see File:Allium July 2013-1.jpg is described as "Allium cyathrophorum" and you created a category "Allium cyathrophorum", but all I can find elsewhere is "Allium_cyathophorum", so I assume this is a typo. Am I right? --Tony Wills (talk) 03:22, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Tony, nice to hear from you! It seems that both of us have had little activity in Commons in the last months. Yes, you are most probably right about the species name, despite the label shown in the botannical garden. I have already fixed the mistake. Alvesgaspar (talk) 13:38, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you can't trust botanical gardens who can you trust ;-). I liked your January photo contest entry, the trouble is that around here 'January' conjures up images of a hot sun over the sea at a sandy beach ... but already a fading memory, we're just going into Autumn now :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 07:26, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
