The discussions have centered more around the different copyright statuses of logos, but I didn't want to use a logo as the 'demo image' because of the risks! --AlisonW 00:14, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not sure I understand what the goal is here? Mixing of free and non-free licenses seems like a very bad idea which shouldn't be encouraged. On the other hand, I think indicating which countries something is PD in and which they are not could be helpful in some cases, though I imagine in most that nobody is going to figure out more than one or two countries at a time (i.e. "I know this is PD in US and Germany but I don't know about anywhere else for sure"). --Fastfission 05:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, whilst we (all WMF projects) can look at an upload and take its copyright status from the locale of the uploader or from the locale of the servers our re-users (on projects or otherwise) don't always know what status might apply to that reuse. If someone in Australia, or Germany (who, in fact, have), or India decides to create a DVD or articles *with images* then the copyright status that applies is a neccessary piece of knowledge, otherwise you end up with a copy without images. This is a thought on a possible way to meet that requirement. --AlisonW 09:18, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
