Double Category[edit]
Hello Ahalin! You are double categorizing. Category:Marine animals at Tasitolu is part of Category:Marine animals of Dili district, which is Category:Marine animals of East Timor There is no need for a double cating. Greetings, --Patrick (talk) 20:33, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Patrick. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to "nest" the sub-categories (the districts and individual dive sites) of Timor-Leste. That is, Marine animals of Dili, Manatuto, Liquica, etc are all subsets of Marine animals of East Timor. I looked up the help files to no avail. But it looks like you have fixed it for me, so a big thank you! For future reference, how is it done? --Ahalin (talk) 00:23, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I hope, I understood your question correct:
Top category: category:Marine animals of East Timor
sub categories first class: [[category:Marine animals of XXXX]] district or for example [[category:Whales of East Timor]] (That is next to do)
sub categories second class: [[category:Marine animals of/at XXXX]] ("of" for a subdistrict, "at" for a diving place or village)
No need for put a image or subcategory second class into the top category again. ;-) Anyhow, at the top category, you can find lower subcategories by clicking on "+" at the sub categories first class. Greetings, --Patrick (talk) 09:01, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

- Good Morning, Ahalin! A category is not thought to be a complete overview with over 200 images at once (There is even a warning sign about to many images in a category). A "bombie" is a kind of fish? As I said yesterday, there is a need for the mext step to create subcategories for fish/corals/sea snails/etc. of East Timor to make it easier to find pictures by searching animals. If you want to make a complete overview, I would advice you a gallery page (like Maps of East Timor). If you want to have all pictures of Nick together, you can simpley look at his User Gallery or create a category:Images by Nick Hobgood. --Patrick (talk) 04:42, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Patrick, I like the gallery idea, except the wikimedia help says "Categories should contain all files related to the subject while galleries should contain a sample of files related to the subject. Ideally, galleries should contain the best of what we have. All files should be in at least one category, but not all files should be in a gallery". A bombie is a term I have just heard over the years, refering to a large hard coral outcrop, like a tall underwater boulder. There is an example here. Your the second person to ask in as many days, perhaps we could start a Wikitionary glossary, like the one for surfing.--Ahalin (talk) 05:55, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

- Here another example of this way of categorization from another theme: File:2 China Eastern.JPG ist just categorized in Category:B-2976 (aircraft), but not at Category:China Eastern Airlines or Category:Boeing 737-300. --Patrick (talk) 19:19, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
