Hi 334a, I see you did some corrections to this map. Can I ask you to make one more correction? In this map, South Africa should be yellow rather than orange, as the majority of its population has Bantu languages, not Indo-European languages, as its native tongues. Thanks in advance, Steinbach 08:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

May I reccomend http://gunn.co.nz/map/ for making maps. That way you can easily get SVG maps of the world. // Liftarn

Hello, 334a!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Inkscape black rectangles[edit]

That's due to the Inskscape "flowtext" botched mess -- you should blame the Inkscape programmers who continue to refuse to remove a software "feature" that many of them know to be stupid, rather than blaming yourself. You can diagnose the problem before uploading at Commons:SVG Check. I'll take a look at the file... AnonMoos (talk) 18:33, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the black rectangles, but I don't think that the particular "Estrangelo (V1.1)" font that you're using is installed on the server, so the text is not correct... AnonMoos (talk) 18:52, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
