Please don't mess with attributions[edit]

I realize this message may or may not reach the anonymous editor who did this yesterday, but in edits such as https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Chinese_New_Year_Seattle_2009_-_06.jpg&diff=prev&oldid=684803745 please be careful not to change attributions. E.g. you changed from "author=[[User:Jmabel|Joe Mabel]]" to "author={{U|1=Jmabel|2=Joe Mabel}}". Because the text produced by the {{U}} template may differ for different users (e.g. with certain settings it may add "(A)" to indicate that I'm an administrator) you are effectively changing my attribution, not a good thing at all.

I've reverted that part of your edit (and of other similar edits to my own uploaded files). I don't have an easy way to find and revert similar edits you may have made under a different IP address to someone else's files.

I strongly urge you to consider editing from a logged-in account instead of an IP address. It makes communications like this a lot simpler. - Jmabel ! talk 22:00, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
