Flag of the 9th Division

Current file

I'm going to request someone to make a new flag of the division, because the current image is not right. 源義信 (talk) 22:22, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

See Hội Ngộ Sư Đoàn 9 Bộ Binh Quân Lực Việt Nam Cộng Hòa. To be honest, I don't know who made this bicolor flag, but the first time I saw it I doubted it, it was the same colour design as the VietCong flag! I think it is possible that the flag was made by veterans after 1975. This can be found in some event photographs, others, however, use the normal (same as the flags of other divisions) design. 源義信 (talk) 22:29, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the rename

傘圓山聖真經 - 河東省環龍縣福林總蠶舍社 - 民奉納. 😮‍💨

Thanks for the correction, perhaps you should apply to become a file mover. I used Google Lens to get the name and while Google Lens is correct 98% (ninety-eight percent) of the time it still occasionally fails. I've actually been looking for more files from this district, it kind debunks the myth that Classical Chinese completely disappeared in the French protectorate of Tonkin early in the occupation (something which many Vietnamese and Western historians claim), rather it's kind of evidence showing that they usually focus only on sources to confirm their perspective. Though I actually have yet to see that documents issues by local mandarins in the French protectorate of Tonkin, only some revenue documents from Nam Định on eBay. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:42, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

I am thinking of applying to become a file mover. And speaking of renaming, would you be willing to rename the photos of Nam-Giao ceremony 1927 by adding numbers to the front of them? For example, this photo is numbered PP0014628 on the website of the Musée du Quai Branly, so rename it as PP0014628 Đại lễ Năm Giao năm 1927, các huyện của tỉnh Thuận Hoá dựng cổng hoa nhà rạp đặt hương án ở ven con đường lên đàn Nam Giao, chờ cung nghinh Thánh giá của Thiên tử nước Đại Nam 03.jpg. The latter part of the title can either be changed or left unchanged. This will facilitate future searches, as I intend to upload more of the museum's collections.
  • 源義信 (talk) 15:46, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

You can organise them as you which, the main and only reason file titles exist is to make them easier to find. A file named "Image 81Y727273838-83950B5059171045004" isn't easy to find, but a name that organises it in a way that makes it easier to find in a series helps a lot.
Unrelated to what you wrote, but I'm surprised with how those Nguyễn Dynasty revenue documents on eBay came within a month and were all sold out in a short amount of time too. These files all contained precious information on the transfer of land rights and how interpersonal trade was done during this period and they came and went in an extremely short period of time. The whole reason I became a fanatic Wikimedian was because many years ago I remember there being a large number of websites on a topic, then when I wanted to look up that information again it was all gone. This actually makes me wonder how many precious documents once appeared on eBay that are now fully inaccessible... -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:07, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I'm currently drafting an article about the Viceroy of Tonkin (officially the "imperial commissioner delegated by the Emperor"), and I'm still missing an image of Trần Lưu Huệ (陳劉慧), you seem to be really good at finding photographs of mandarins, so if you ever happen to come across him then feel free to leave me a message. — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:28, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
    Hello, Donald Trung,
You may have noticed that I have uploaded an article by Mr Trần Lưu Tuệ and an illustration of him (see: Category:Trần Lưu Tuệ, Huệ/惠 was once his name, but he eventually changed it to Tuệ/慧). In fact, I tried to find a photograph or a painting of him but could not find one.
I was working on information and documents of Mr Hoàng Thuỵ Chi (黃瑞芝) when you left me your message. Coincidentally, I happened to see a picture of a possible portrait of Mr. Trần Lưu Tuệ on a page (Image) about Mr. Chi that I had never found before!
Unfortunately, this page does not provide any more information about this picture. It is possible that this is actually a portrait of another person (as is often the case). But this is a breakthrough and I'd like to thank you for asking me about it, otherwise I might never have noticed it. I hope this helps. 源義信 (talk) 18:53, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
Plus, the owner of this blog seems to be a grandson of Mr. Hoàng Thuỵ Chi (黃瑞芝) and it provides several valuable photographs of Mr. Chi. The blogger's grandmother Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Hân, is Mr. Trần Lưu Tuệ's granddaughter (see: [1]). When I am available, I will try to compare this portrait of Mr. Trần Lưu Tuệ with identified portraits of other mandarins. 源義信 (talk) 18:58, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
@Donald Trung: By the way, why is this (File:Hình dấu Quốc gia tin bảo - Hình dấu Ngự tiền chi bảo (之御寳前) - Hình dấu Văn lý mật sát - Trung tâm Lưu trữ quốc gia I.png) named as "之御寳前", isn't it "御前之寳"? 源義信 (talk) 20:19, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
I forgot to proofread it before publishing. I used Google Lens and didn't correct the name. On my mobile device it's actually quite difficult to request a file rename because the interface wasn't made with mobile users in mind, feel free to request a rename. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:32, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

Museum of the Republic of Vietnam

    URL: https://www.facebook.com/museumrvn/photos

I noticed the Facebook page of a museum, which has posted many photos of its collection (some are obviously collected online though), as well as photos of events at the museum (such as the visit of General Le Minh Dao and General Tran Van Chon to the museum).

Even more fascinating is the collection of authentic military flags and insignia, such as the early design of the 18th Division flag and the flag of the 23rd Division (I was curious as to why this flag was different from the others). These can be used as a reference when making images of them for the Commons.

There are also some documents that can be uploaded to the Commons: Document of the State of Vietnam, ID card of General Nguyen Ngoc Loan and General Cao Van Vien. 源義信 (talk) 08:52, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

    Adobe Photoshop

    The image concerned.

Hello, excuse me for bothering you again, but you indicated that you have the Adobe Photoshop software, is it possible to replace whitespace with transparency in it? I improved the seal in this image, but I wasn't able to remove the whitespace from the seal, Inkscape is incredibly complicated when it comes to a lot of basic tasks, and from what I've read that's mostly because of the patents that Adobe has monopolised in easy image editing, so I wondered if you might be familiar with how to remove white parts in Adobe Photoshop and could help me improve this template image? Thank you for taking the time to read this message. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:00, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

    Hi, Donald Trưng,
I'm willing to help and I think it's not a difficult task with Adobe Photoshop but currently I'm not home so I am not able to use my personal computer until next week. I'll do it then unless it has been finished by someone else. 源義信 (talk) 02:04, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the consideration, I really appreciate it. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 07:25, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
    •  Comment, apparently someone already replaced it with a "higher quality image" 😑 though they just copied my design and (in my opinion made it worse), I'll admit that I'm not a fan of calligraphic writing, I prefer orderly straight writing which is rounded enough to not be square but not cursive, so I really love the Times New Roman font (in the Netherlands Arial is the standard business font but in the United States of America it's Times New Roman which has both a strong ancient and a strong modern look to it combining both into a nice harmonious union). That aside, the Chinese seal script is the exact same font, they didn't really try to change it, and the Chinese cursive script is just different. Either way, I find it odd how they use that bird's nest (the One-Pillar Pagoda, my wife always calls it "a Bird's Nest" because of how small it is when you visit it in real life) for both Việt Nam and that country's most beautiful city, Hanoi (just kidding, I haven't been to Huế yet so I shouldn't call it such, Hanoi simply has a special place in my heart because one of my kids is born there, specifically in what used to be the Hoán Long District during the Nguyễn Dynasty / French period). Either way, you don't have to fulfil the request anymore as I prefer not to edit war over the image.
I personally added user "Goran tek-en's" dragon because (1) Chinese dragons have been the main symbol of Vietnam since it became a thing, every regime in Vietnamese history represented itself with Chinese dragons except for the VNDCCH, CHMNVN, CHXHCNVN, and the First (1st) Republic period of the VNCH; (2) It was the template header before I replaced it and I only like adding stuff rather than removing it. Those reasons aside, Chinese dragons are just really cool 😎 creatures to add to decorations, while the Chinese didn't do it much in imperial China, imperial Vietnam used them excessively everywhere, kind of looking like a Chinatown in the USA (the story behind it is that the image of Chinese dragons everywhere in the San Francisco Chinatown comes because two (2) White men designed it after a major earthquake or fire destroyed it, and they just added them everywhere while the Chinese wouldn't have done it making it look like "an Orientalist parody of China", but in reality such designs are completely in place in Vietnam).
Likewise, I'm not a fan of this image either, I think that it looks weird how they moved the bird's nest behind the text and not next to it making it look less smooth. But this image is a slight improvement over this, but only because I messed up the font size of "Huế" in Latin script and "Lịch" in Traditional Chinese characters making it look weird. Plus here they did improve the seal.
So, consider my request withdrawn... --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 07:55, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
