Are these revenue documents also land registration documents

Hello 源義信 (Nguyên Nghĩa Tín),

I am not sure, but are the documents in this category also mostly land registration documents? In this case I just followed the naming scheme from eBay, but I'm not sure which ones are land registration documents which are revenue documents for other transactions. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:11, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello Donald Trung (徵國單),
I've checked the documents in Classical Chinese and found that most of the documents are 文契 ("văn khế": contract; deed), as you can see on these covers[1], [2]. And the content of them is about the trade of the land. For example, this File:French Indo-China Revenue Paper Document (Thành Thái 15) Cotevina 01.png is a contract in which a couple from Hải Hậu district sold their land (left by grandfather) to a man of the same clan. 源義信 (talk) 09:52, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Can you identify this seal?

The large Chinese seal script seal on the left.

Hello, long time no see,

I wanted to ask you if you by any chance know what the Chinese seal script on the left says? I haven't been able to identify by comparing to anything in any reference work I own. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:16, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Donald Trưng.Sadly, I am not familiar with the 小篆 script, and I can't help you identify all the four characters on the seal. However, I guess the first two characters are "啓定". I found and uploaded a similar file with higher image resolution and with the content in Chinese, which may help you. 源義信 (talk) 04:28, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your help, I've been trying to map out all the seals of the Nguyễn Dynasty for a couple of years now and I've come reasonably far, but then I just scroll a random guy's Meta's Facebook timeline to find out that I still have a lot of work to do in that area, sometimes imperial seals are used to stamp these, sometimes institutional seals. The seal used on the French text is the French-made Khải Định Empereur de l'Annam seal so I guess that the seal on the left is likely the Chinese equivalent of it, but unfortunately I can't read seal script either so I'm left guessing. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 08:22, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
I managed to identify the last two characters. These should be "宸翰", which means its the own handwriting of the emperor. Then the seal is the own seal of emperor Khai-Dinh (啓定宸翰/Khải Định Thần Hàn). I hope this would help. 源義信 (talk) 17:29, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

SVG seals

I am actually planning on writing articles about basically every Nguyễn Dynasty institution, agency, ministry, department, and other government office in the future (or at least map them out), by then I have hoped to have already requested SVG versions of every seal of these major institutions like the Ministry of Personnel. However, I don't want to ask too many requests at once at the Graphics Lab's Illustration workshop so I haven't requested most yet and I am afraid if they think that I'm not immediately going to use those images at Wikipedia (but in the indefinite future) that people might not be as willing to vectorise them. But yeah, I do understand your tagging. Maybe it would also be wise to check out the English-language Wikipedia's graphic lab, they seem to work faster than here but I'm not allowed to use it (because I once had emoji's in my signature there which is only a bannable offense when I do it). Also, if you want SVG versions of images you can always open your own requests. I was thinking about going to technical websites if I could recruit more WikiGraphists, but I haven't found the time yet. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 16:36, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for noticing. To be honest I've only just discovered this template and wanted to try it out (Wikimedia has so many templates that it's hard for me to always know the right one to use at once). However, I added this template just to put them in the category of to be vectorised and did not ask anyone to help create the svg file. When I have time maybe I'll try to vectorise them myself (maybe) 源義信 (talk) 04:08, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Harmonizing categories is forbidden; Criterion #4 is dedicated only for sets (one subject, one day, one author), one photo divided into many parts (Thames 1/100; Thames 2/100, etc.), Wikisource's books or for templates (BSicon and others). Remember: „Just because images share a category does not mean that they are part of a set.” In such a case you can use Criterion #2 (meaningless name) or #3 (error, mistake). Wieralee (talk) 20:00, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

The reason for renaming is that these photos are from the same collection and same author. The category is just for reference, not the reason for renaming. I think I didn't request for renaming "just because images share a category" but for a justified reason, maybe you can check my reason and other images from the same collection more carefully? My request is not "just because". I mentioned the category so that other users can check the other images by the same author from the same collection.源義信 (talk) 02:41, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

South Vietnamese insignia

Hello Nguyên Nghĩa Tín (源義信),

I recently came across this webpage:

It lists all insignia of the military and police forces of the Republic of Vietnam (well, one (1) file seems to be broken, so almost all), I'm not sure if you want to import them all or not, but anyhow I wondered if you ever came across such insignia from the State of Việt Nam period as you were importing government works from this period, but for whatever reason I mostly only find Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) period files and insignias whenever I search 🔎. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 23:00, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Donald Trung,
Thanks for reminding me! I had often seen similar lists, but I hadn't started working on Commons at that time. When I tried searching on Commons after seeing your message, I realised that most of these insignias hadn't been uploaded yet (although there are many files of military flags that have even been vectorised). There is a book called Remembering the ARVN which is about the military insignias of South Vietnam. This book contains several insignias of military units in the State of Vietnam era.
But these insignias were those of battalion units, and I don't recall seeing the insignias or flags of higher-ranking units from the State of Vietnam era... As for other forces like Hoa Hao, Binh Xuyen or ethnic minority forces, I've also seen some on the internet, such as: [1] 源義信 (talk) 23:50, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Except for the cap badge (page 116) of the state of Vietnam period, which can also be found on many old photographs.
  • The badge was also used in the RVN era, as [2], [3].--源義信 (talk) 00:10, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

Amazing book, I'm glad someone made it, I was about to look for the author to ask for VRT permission but then realised that he was selling his book on Amazon so I highly doubt that that would lead anywhere, maybe still worth a try. Quite interesting that there was also an alternative badge attributed to the "Phù hiệu thời Vua Bảo Đại - Cap Badge of Royal Guards" other than the one attributed to the "Phù hiệu nón Ngự Lâm Quân - Royal Guard Brigade" that I already knew. This book contains a lot of insignia but completely misses the Provisional Central Government of Vietnam which also had its own insignia. For example the badge attributed to "Badge of the Việt binh đoàn - Vietnamese Army (1947-49)" here. I used to think that the addition of the bird was influence from the United States of America but apparently it dates long before the American influence began. What is interesting is that President Ngô Đình Diệm generally tends to replace images of dragons wherever he could find them, likely because he had a grudge against the former-Emperor.
Also, he added an ink brush and a sword to his symbols, this is to symbolise civil mandarins and military mandarins, what is also interesting is that when Ngô Đình Diệm became Shangshu of the Ministry of Personnel, which traditionally served as the human resources department of the civil mandarins, the Ministry of War was also merged into it, which served as the human resources department for military mandarins. My guess is that this symbolism is kind of a reference to his time as the Shangshu of the Ministry of Personnel. Don't even get me started on the military symbols, badges, and insignias of the Nguyễn Dynasty period under French rule, those aren't documented in works like the above at all. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 06:51, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
