If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. Israel dispute

Hi ברוקולי,

I'm aware that there is a long-running dispute regarding Israeli copyright in which you appear to be involved. The dispute appears to be scattered over dozens of pages and as a result an uninvolved user cannot readily follow it. I personally consider myself uninvolved in this, and would like to help all people involved in this reach a resolution. I have no desire to act as an arbitrator or mediator, but I am attempting to help the broader community understand the dispute.

I have created a page in my user space in an attempt to list any discussions relevant to the dispute. I'd appreciate it if you would help by adding discussions that you consider relevant to that page. I'd also be grateful if you could notify other people involved if I have not done so already. I have spoken the nothing but the truth. I am astonished that someone can spread this hate propaganda and not getting indefinite block. All the family of my grandfather was murdered in the Holocaust, and this is what I see when I come here? I did not speak for to long, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I now saw that you blocked him for 1 week. I take some of my words back, but I'm asking you to understand how difficult it was for me to see this nomination. What my family suffered from the Nazi's is something I wouldn't want to happen even to my worst enemies. I got really angry, and you are right that I crossed the line. Categorisation of Latuff related images

From looking at your recent edits, it would seem that the following message I sent to a number of users earlier can probably apply to you also. Changing categories includes reverting to a previous, "stable", version of categorisation. Please do not continue to change the categorisation of Latuff related content since it is clearly controversial and should be discussed. Regards. Adambro (talk) 20:13, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

This is a request to those who, looking at page histories, seem most active in changing the categories of Latuff related images. As per my comments here, I must encourage you all to participate in discussions to arrive at a consensus as to appropriate categorisation instead of changing the categories without consensus.

The constant changing of the categorisation of File:Latuff nazi camp 2.png has necessitated its protection from editing. This is an invitation to properly discuss this on the talk page, not to find another Latuff related image and continue to edit war regarding that image's categories.

If the constant changing of categories continues then I will be compelled to take further action to reduce the disruptive nature of this by considering the protection of further pages or blocking of users involved, all of whom are experienced enough to understand why edit warring isn't constructive.

Please try, however difficult it may be, to engage in proper discussions with other members of the Commons community to find an acceptable categorisation to all. Adambro (talk) 13:32, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I didn't edit in the relevant Latuff image if I remember correctly. That said, it isn't right when one side can do whatever he wants and not get reverted, while the other side must discuss first or risked getting sanctions. Kooritza (talk) 20:18, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure which Latuff images you've edited but my request applies more broadly, to all related content. I'd definitely agree that this is an unfortunate situation. What has happened with File:Latuff nazi camp 2.png has shown though that some users will continue to change categories despite that clearly being controversial unless some kind of protection or warning about that behaviour is in place. No resolution to the issue of categorisation is going to come through edit warring. All interested parties must try hard to discuss it properly with others if there is any chance this might be sorted. Adambro (talk) 20:39, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I agree and I think I have proven in CMT:FOP that I know to discuss and not just reverting. I do hope that Liftarn et al will not do such categorisation withour proper discussion first. Kooritza (talk) 20:43, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I am optimistic but only time will tell. I've not noticed any significant changes since I asked them to refrain from changing the categorisation until some kind of consensus emerges, hopefully they will continue to focus on discussing these issues. Please help replace this outdated license

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
