User:Pelagic/Sydney Zoo
I am not affiliated with Sydney Zoo. It is close to where I live, and as a new zoo isn't yet well documented.
I hope to use my 2023 annual pass to capture a decent number of photos, or even a number of decent photos.
Areas:
- African animals
- Australian animals
- Primate Boulevard (central avenue)
- Aquarium (fish, turtles, crustaceans, penguins)
- Herpetarium (snakes, lizards, amphibians, stick insects, scorpions, nocturnal mammals)

Advice to visitors[edit]
If you plan any outdoor activity in the Australian summer, make sure you wear sun protection and stay hydrated. I try to always bring sunscreen, hat, and water bottle. There is sun cover at the zoo, but some sections are exposed. It is too large for all paths to be completely under cover. There are plenty of shady places to find respite from the heat of the direct sun, but you will still get UV exposure whilst walking around. There is a drinking fountain and water-bottle refill station next to the cafeteria.
Conversely, it may be raining. In 2021–2023 we have had two years of La Ninya, SOI, and floods: don't assume summer will be dry. If so, bring an umbrella, and footwear that's appropriate for sand/gravel paths.
Aquarium[edit]
The indoor aquarium has eight stretches of corridor with display tanks, which I refer to as A to H. Section E has three smaller tanks, the others have one large tank each. Each tank may have 1–6 species.
My to-do list:
- Photograph each:
- species
- exhibit
- Select some photos of visitors viewing the exhibits (need to be careful about identifiable people and personality rights, since I'm not getting signed waivers).
- If you recognise yourself in one of my photos and it bothers you, then please let me know.
- Videos showing species movement.
- Need to overcome the challenge of converting MP4 to Ogg.
Under cover out of the sun, it is a good place to photograph on a hot summer day, though it can still get warm on the hottest days.
