Mike Heseltine (born Feb 1961)

Mike Heseltine is a painter and printmaker living in Scotland. He spends much of his working life in isolation on a remote Scottish island. His current work explores Buddhist teachings and ancient symbolism. He has paintings and drawings in collections worldwide, including The Palace of Westminster.

Career: Exhibitions include one man shows at: Mall Galleries, London New Academy Gallery, London Cadogan Gallery, London Bulstrode Gallery, London Group shows at: Churzee Gallery, London Medici Gallery. London Tyron & Moorland Gallery, London Saatchi Art, Online

Trained at the Berkshire College of Art & Design UK in 1981. After a brief spell working in a London Stockbrokers Mike took up full time painting and printmaking. A chance meeting with sculptress and printmaker Elizabeth Frink in 1983 steered his work towards symbolism. In 1996 he bought a ruined castle in Scotland, where he lived for 10 years. He now spends much of his time on a small remote island on the West Coast of Scotland, researching and drawing Buddhist teachings.

During his early career, Mike focused on large semi abstract oil paintings of cityscapes in London, where he lived. Throughout the 1990's he had one man exhibitions covering themes such as the London Law Courts, Oxford Colleges and a series of paintings commissioned by the Palace of Westminster of 'Places where Parliament have sat'.

Influenced by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and Eckhart Tolle, his work from 2003 onwards became focused on Zen Buddhist teachings.
