Example: Sudan[edit]

Consider Sudan (leftmost country column). History: Egypt controlled and then taken over by the United Kingdom. In 1953, UK announced it would allow independence. On 15 December 1955, premier announced Sudan would claim independence in 4 days. On 19 December 1955, parliament declared independence. On 1 January 1956, UK recognized independence.

Wikidata Sudan (Q1049). inception (P571) → 1956-01-01.

Use 1956-01-02 (to avoid timezone issues) and get from Intl package:

ar-IR gregory الأحد، ١ يناير ١٩٥٦ الأحد، ١ يناير ١٩٥٦
ar-SA islamic-umalqura الأحد، ١٧ جمادى الأولى ١٣٧٥ هـ الأحد، ١٧ جمادى الأولى ١٣٧٥ هـ
en gregory Sunday, January 1, 1956 Sun, Jan 1, 1956
en-GB-u-ca-islamic islamic Sunday, 18 Jumada I 1375 AH 1375 AH
// JavaScript to generate the date strings...
// set the date in UTC (need only worry about before or after lunar new year: e.g. 1 Jan or 1 Jul)
dateSudan = new Date("1956-01-01T00:00+00:00");

// display just the year and era (AD / AH) for a UTC date
var optionsDate = { year: "numeric", timeZone: "UTC", era: "short" };

dateSudan.toLocaleDateString("ar-IR", optionsDate);
dateSudan.toLocaleDateString("ar-SA", optionsDate);

From the original diagram:

  • Number on top of the line: ١٩٥٦ م → 1956 AD.
  • Number on bottom of the line: ١۳۷٥ هـ → 1375 AH.

June 2023 AD → 1402 SH → 1444 AH.

  • SH: 1335
  • AH: 1377 (off by two years. One year is Jan versus March?)
  • AH: 1376 (try February; AH would still be previous year...)

log[edit]

@Jak and Glrx: i will create a file and post it here - will take a few days because i am busy --Mrmw (talk) 21:34, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

@Jak: hi, here is first file:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/6/6a/20230612032442%21PNG_Test.png
please note its just a draft, i want to draw it more precisely
therefore i need from you translation of years
pls provide information like this:
column - number - calender - year
E - 05 - H/G - 722
pls use this i prepared:
---->>> /years
--Mrmw (talk) 21:11, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks @Mrmw: for offering to help. While looking for a better quality version to fill in the dates, but I found that the same publisher has a newer version of the map (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E-XY9f7X0B8eQJg?format=jpg&name=large). Not sure if this will make the work copyrighted? What do you think? --Jak (talk) 15:26, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
@Jak: hmmm not sure, in german wikipedia we ask at de:WP:UF
commons pedant is COM:VPC
to be sure you should ask there and name all your sources
are you sure the generated jpeg is correct?
for example the top of the three red tips in center of map
i think this are at least two different years, at the generated map they are all same: 1289
--Mrmw (talk) 18:48, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
@Mrmw and Jak: Copyright protects the means of expression, not the idea itself. So if you can, you know, re-order columns and change block colors here and there, you will be in the safe zone. --Designism (talk) 13:53, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
