Thanks for uploading Image:User Photo Fcb981.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.

You're a wikistalker![edit]

Haha, yeah, that was pretty frustrating - my first venture into Adobe Illustrator. I'm clearly a better photographer than graphic designer. I don't know if you've ever used Illustrator but it isn't nearly as intuitive as Photoshop. Theres literally no way (as far as I know, and as far as my Google searches have told me) to properly and permanently crop a document. All you can do is just 'mask' the bits you don't want to actually display. Thats all well and good but if you go into the SVG file and edit it, you can see all the messiness under the surface. And converting it to SVG messed up some of the effects I'd used. As great as SVG is for scaling, I found it was much better to export to a high resolution PNG file. At least what you see is what you get. SVG is so wishywashy with compatibility and the way it displays in browsers. Diliff 14:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Your account was used to vandalize, by uploading an image which is now deleted. You can see the upload occurred by looking here. What explanation do you have for this? - Rjd0060 (talk) 22:52, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Your comment does not address the issue. Now, there is a possibility that this account is compromised and thus needing to be blocked. Is there anything we need to know with regards to that? Did you make the upload that I've linked above? - Rjd0060 (talk) 01:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Transcluded user templates with embedded license templates[edit]

Hi Fcb981,

Your transcluded user templates with embedded license templates are not compliant with current Commons policy. However, several users do it the same way as you do, so I think it would be relevant to debate more openly if we should change the Commons policy or modify the way your user templates are transcluded. Now, taking the criticism from you on board of not being very good at notifying you before posting such issues, I thought I wanted to do something differently this time . I have therefore drafted a post for COM:AN at User:Slaunger/Sandbox/COM:AN message. I would like to give you an oppurtunity to read it and correct any factual mistakes before I post it. Please do not open actual discussion in the draft post, I ask to wait until it is posted at COM:AN.

Best wishes, --Slaunger (talk) 13:54, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I read through the message and it seems perfectly fine. I have no problem removing the actual license notice from the user template. When I made it initially, that was just what I noticed others were doing. I understand the rational behind the policy and I have no problem changing the images pages to comply. That said, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get around to changing all 50+ image pages but if there's a bot that does it or something along those lines, I have no objections. -Fcb981 (talk) 15:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Fcb981,
Thank you very much for your swift response. I am glad that you find my proposal is reasonable. I have updated my draft with a reference to this thread and also updated it with further users who do licensing this way. I am quite sure we will be able to find a bot operator, who could help you with doing the needed changes. I will keep you informed (on this talk page). --Slaunger (talk) 19:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
--Slaunger (talk) 19:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, Fcb981,
It's been a while. I have gotten a bot flag for SlaungerBot to do this kind of thing. It hs already done license template extractions from more than 2000 file pages of Jean-Pol GRANDMONT. If you are still up for it I propose that we proceed along the same lines as with Jean-Pol (see our talk pages):
 1. I create new templates in your user subpage. You approve them.
 2. I replace your existing user template with new one and license by hand on a single file page. You approve it.
 3. I let the bot do the rest. You confirm the bot moves are alright.
Deal? --Slaunger (talk) 12:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi there. Haha, it all sounds too easy! =) I really appreciate you going through all the trouble to make this (unbelievably) easy for me, and others. Just let me know what needs approving, although it must be said I have complete faith in you to do anything that needs doing. If you want help to minimize your workload for my template transition, don't hesitate to ask. -Fcb981 (talk) 18:20, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, after having seen many rants written by you against Commons, I thought I would like to show that Commons can be a pleasant place to be . Anyways, I am glad you are enjoying the ride in this amusement park. I have looked at your template, it was very easy to reorganize it, and I have simply extracted your personal credit text from User:Fcb981/license and placed it in a new template User:Fcb981/credit, which is now transcluded into your license template. That means it is now suitable for subst'ing in the future instead of transcluding in case you decide to do further uploads. However, before we move on, you might want to consider the existing GFDL-self license template. As you may know there is a license migration going on, and I urge you to read Commons:License Migration Task Force/Migration if you have not done so already. As is evident from that text you need to specify a migration parameter to the license template and we might as well do that before we subst it such that you do not have to do it on every single file page afterwards. I think that in your case it will be a matter of choosing between migration=relicense (if you do not mind a migration to CC-BY-SA) or migration=opt-out if you want to stick with GFDL as the only license (not recommended by the Wikimedia Foundation). --Slaunger (talk) 22:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I noticed that NuclearWarfare just added the relicense option to you template. Please note that in case you want to change it to opt-out, the deadline is August 1 (and I think you also have to mention it explicitly somewhere, i.e., on the talk page of the Migration subpage I linked to above). --Slaunger (talk) 08:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

That all looks good, the relicensing is fine with me, and I approve the moved template. And wow!, well I'd like to think of myself as open-minded, and frankly, you are single-handedly changing my opinion of commons. I'm also somewhat surprised that at least someone has read my rants! ;) Thanks again -Fcb981 (talk) 11:21, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Ohhh, you rants are notorious. I have special memories with this one... Anyways, if I can help changing your mind about Commons, that would be an unexpected reward lol. Anyways, I have let my bot substitute your new user license in this image. Is it OK? --Slaunger (talk) 22:00, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi Eric, just wanted to inform you that I will be off-line until August 8. --Slaunger (talk) 23:08, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi Eric. I am back. Was the first edit by my bot OK? --Slaunger (talk) 15:32, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Fcb981!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
