This is just a rough scetch! There is much more detail to come.

This page gives a quick walk-though of what you should do after uploading an image or other media in order to make useful for other users.

  1. Description: Please give a short description of what the image shows. Ideally, this should be done in english - the description in other languages should be on the respective description pages on the wikis that use this image. Please refer to them using inter-language-links.
  2. Licensing: Make sure you are allowed to publish the picture under a license accepted on the commons. This must be a license that grants the right to freely use the image and derivative work for any purpose, provided the author/artist is given and the same license is used for re-publishing.
  3. Source: Alsways give the source from which you got an image. If you made it yourself, please state this explicitely. If the image is in the public domain, please give a source anyway so this fact can be easily verified. Provide links if you can.
  4. Placing: Place the image in the structure of categories and pages here on the commons, so that media regarding a specific topic can easily be found by others. This means you should put the image on one of more topic page (gallery) or put it into one or more categories directly.
