Bus 19[edit]

Can someone make a Business 19 shield? I'm not sure if it's a loop or a spur. It begins at I-19 and ends at I-10. No rush, i'm just trying to upgrade the I-19 article. Thanks MPD01605 06:49, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--You got them. Go check them out. Ltljltlj 00:55, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interstate shields with bigger numbers[edit]

I'm starting to make the shields with larger numbers if that is ok with anyone. If you don't like them, you can just go to the old version, they are still there. Ltljltlj 01:00, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not. These signs conform to the latest edition of Standard Highway Signs, while yours were just... fucked up. --SPUI 20:49, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bring this up again, but there is a chance that my more recent 750x600 M1-2 and M1-3 dimensions (which I also used for the ones with the state names) might be a bit off; they always seemed a bit too small to me, but nobody complained about it. Compare my older 3di templates with the current ones. I'm inclined to believe though that my more recent ones are more accurate, since the first ones I made were done rather sloppily. Anyway, if it is found that mine are not accurate, please post a message on my English Wikipedia talk page. --Chris 23:03, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Err wait, never mind. I just looked at Ltljltlj's changes, and some of them are definetely wrong. (I'm not saying my templates are necessarily perfect though.) For instance, the word INTERSTATE on a 3di sign is definetely not supposed to be that thin. We already went through this a while ago. --Chris 23:11, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Downtown Loops & Spurs[edit]

I have added the Downtown Loops and Spurs. If you have never seen them, you can go to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, they have them. --Ltljltlj 03:23, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clearview[edit]

What about shields using Clearview. For example, for the fresh for the Superbowl rebuild of the Jeffries Freeway (I-96) in Detroit, MDOT replaced all the signage, including the Interstate shields, with Clearview based ones. Clearview I-96 photo I took KelleyCook 16:15, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So far, it is impossible to use the Clearview fonts on Inkscape. Whenever I tried to use them, they would revert to a different font style. We will have to wait until someone can find a way to fix this problem. Ltljltlj 00:35, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shield Request -- I-359 (AL)[edit]

Image:Interstate 359 AL.gif, used in en:Interstate 359 doesn't have an SVG equivalent yet.

Done. Go check out Image:Interstate 359 (Alabama).svg! Vishwin60 01:19, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other shields including Image:Interstate 195 MA.gif, Image:Interstate 195 RI.gif, Image:Interstate 295 MA.gif, Image:Interstate 295 RI.gif, Image:Interstate 381 Virginia.gif, Image:Interstate 895 MA.gif and Image:Interstate 895 RI.gif also don't have an SVG equivalent yet, but the shields mentioned are unused. -- Paddu 19:16, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

I've heard numerous places that the AASHTO claims copyright on the shield design. Is this true and if so how does this affect these? --Random832 13:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it appears that they do claim trademark. [1]. A search of the US Copyright office for all copyrights owned by AASHTO (or AASHO, since it was known by that name at the time) did not reveal any specific copyright on the shield, but the shield appearing in a book they published could be enough to trigger Copyright protections. Note that copyright would eventually expire, but trademarks can exist indefinately so long as the mark is in active use (and there's no doubt that interstate shields are still in active use). 69.255.208.30 19:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PNG shields?[edit]

The highway shields on Wikipedia used to be .PNG format but now they're in .SVG -- can the .PNG ones be made available again? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bonfire98A (talk • contribs) at 21:58, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why? (zelzany - framed) 23:17, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What Zelzany said. The SVGs are lossless and and the preferred format now -- master_sonTalk - Edits 23:21, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please forgive an ignorant, unknowing commoner for having the effrontery to ask a simple question. I am not so dense that I can't figure out that SVG must be better in some way than PNG, or else the format wouldn't have been changed. To answer your questions of "why," very simply, I cannot add SVG files to PowerPoint documents, like I could the PNGs. I know there is conversion software, and I've tried using it, but wasn't satisfied with the results.
Perhaps the better question would not be to ask that the old PNGs be added back to this page, but instead to ask if they are available elsewhere, or if they were just deleted altogether.
My apologies -- I just downloaded the Inkscape program and it made a perfect conversion to PNG.

Requesting shields[edit]

If you do not want to make a shield using the SVG templates above, you can try asking someone to make one for you on the request page on Wikipedia. Just be very clear about what # and either what state or whether it's a business LOOP or SPUR. Right now, you just need to wait for a user to fulfil your request.

I-35W in Kansas[edit]

Could someone make a shield for I-35W in Kansas (the highway that is now signed as I-135)? --24.255.161.62 01:53, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Idaho?[edit]

I couldn't help but notice there are no shields for Idaho? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeysfishtank (talk • contribs) 08:06, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I-643[edit]

Could someone make a shield for I-643? This designation never existed, but was a proposed designation for what is now just Interstate 41 between the Hale Interchange and Green Bay. NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 11:01, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I-441[edit]

I personally believe that there should be an I-441 shield made, since I-41 exists now at both terminuses of WI-441, and WI-441 is already a freeway, I feel that it is likely that could become an interstate in the future. NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 03:44, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I-392[edit]

Does anyone know how to update the shield for I-392? cause the latest version on this page is a very outdated design. NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 03:45, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I-344[edit]

Since the John Kilpatrick Turnpike in OKC has been approved by AASHTO to become I-344, should a shield be created? Though I am a little skeptical of this since there already exits OK-344 (Gilcrease Expressway) that is directly connected to I-44 in Tulsa.
