Please add some info on the history of the coat of arms

I was looking for an explanation of the different types of coats of arms I see on Spanish coins and how this has developed through times. I was quite a bit disappointed not to find anything on that here. There must be people who know somthing about this. Can somebody please give a historical timeline and explanation on how it developed through time and put that in front of the items of little use to anyone (like all those sacred heart nonsense).
