18 November 2022 - Workshop OpenRefine en Wikimedia Commons - OpenRefine is a well-known tool for editing, enriching and manipulating data. It is widely used within the Wikimedia community to add data to Wikidata. As from version 3.7, you can also upload images to Wikimedia Commons, enriched with structured data. 24 January 2024 - Reuse indicators for KB images in Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, the 2023 update - Wikipedia is a very effective channel to globally improve the findability, visibility and reusability of images from the heritage collections of KB. This can be measured by three reuse indicators (KPIs). This article gives an update of of the growth of these KPIs during 2023.

29 December 2022 - Three reuse indicators for KB images in Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, in a historical perspective (2013-2022) - Wikipedia is a very effective channel to globally improve the findability, visibility and reusability of images from the heritage collections of KB, the national library of the Netherlands. In this article I will illustrate this, based on three reuse indicators (KPIs) that I measured in December 2022. I will also show that during the period 2013-2022 our image collections have reached ever-increasing global audiences.

20 December 2022 - Public outreach and reuse of KB images via Wikipedia, 2014-2022 - The KB regularly uploads images from its heritage collections - atlases, medieval manuscripts, friendship books, picture books, etc - to this Commons category for uptake by Wikipedia article creators. In this article I discuss this type of reuse of KB collections, and how it helps to increase their public outreach. 3 November 2022 - Nepartikelen op Wikipedia - Wikipedia heeft prominente rol om mensen van betrouwbare informatie te voorzien. Juist vanwege die functie en het grote bereik is Wikipedia een aantrekkelijke plek om onjuiste informatie de wereld in te helpen. Het is daarom van groot belang dat nepartikelen snel herkend en verwijderd worden. In dit artikel kijk ik hoe een goede Wiki-hoax in elkaar zit en laat ik een aantal beroemde nepartikelen die het lang hebben volgehouden de revue passeren. Verder leg ik uit hoe Wikipedia nepinformatie voorkomt en wat je zelf kunt doen om hoaxes te herkennen.

10 June 2021 - Wikimedia Nederland blog - Nieuwe functionaliteiten voor de topstukken van de Koninklijke Bibliotheek - Last year, the KB put its collection highlights in Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia. As a result, this historical cultural heritage has become more visible, findable and reusable. You can now do things with these highlights that were not possible before on the KB's own website.

April-June 2021 - Github - 50 cool new things you can now do with KB’s collection highlights - In this series of 5 articles we show the added value of putting images and metadata of digitised collection highlights of the KB into the Wikimedia infrastructure. By putting our collection highlights into Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, dozens of new functionalities have been added. As a result of Wikifying this collection in 2020, you can now do things with these highlights that were not possible before.

8 June 2020 - Making references to Dutch newspapers in Wikipedia more sustainable - Dutch Wikipedia contains some 20.000 citations to Delpher. Many of those URLs are sustainable, but until recently Dutch Wikipedia also contained thousands of non-future-proof links to Delpher. This article shows how we found those links and replaced them with persistent URLs.

21 May 2020 - Detecting Wikipedia articles strongly based on single library collections - This article illustrates an approach to detect Wikipedia articles whose contents are fully or largely based on content from a single online source, such as a full-text digitized newspaper archive or a digital text library. Using Dutch Wikipedia 247 articles are found that owe their existence to Delpher and DBNL, two full-text collections operated by the KB.
