A view of early exploration in the Beaumont area. This clustered field is directly atop the large Spindletop Salt Dome - just one year after initial subsurface oil discovery.

Description
English: Photograph of the Spindletop Oil field in 1902, one year after initial drilling in 1901. The discovery of concentrated oil and gas caused a frenzy of drilling with companies establishing wells within close proximity.
