Summary[edit]
DescriptionBeavers Insurance Company Building, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Doty Street, Madison, WI (52744529502).jpg | Built in 1921, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Law, Law and Porter for the Beavers Insurance Company. The building features a limestone base with subtle detailing, including recessed window bays not he first and second floors, metal spandrel panels, and a band of extruded belt coursing at the top, and an entrance door along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard with a cornice featuring dentils. The third floor of the building features decorative stone surrounds at the corner windows, with other windows being unadorned, with orange brick cladding on the upper portion of the building between the third and seventh floors, two bands of belt coursing below the seventh floor windows, decorative reliefs featuring cartouches at the corners of the seventh floor and stone cladding above the seventh floor windows and on the parapet, which encloses the building’s low-slope roof. The building is part of Block 89, which was redeveloped in the 1990s and 2000s, replacing other historic buildings with two large contemporary office buildings, an underground parking ramp, and preserving only a few historic buildings on the block. The building was rehabilitated as part of the Block 89 project by Valerio Dewalt Train, and today houses the offices of Johnson Bank. |
