1906 San Fran Earthquake — For today's #TBT, we're sharing a photo from the Great San Francisco earthquake that happened on April 18th, 1906. In this photo we see residents overlooking downtown San Francisco as fires breakout across the city. The event that took place in 1906 measured equivalent to M7.9 and ruptured 296 miles along the San Andreas fault. The shaking lasted from 45-60 seconds and some places such as Shelter Cove near the north end of the rupture experienced up to 28 feet (8.5m) of offset.
