  • Significance: The purpose of this study is to examine the results of a survey of historical, archeological, and architectural resources in the Brookland Community and the Catholic University Campus. The survey was conducted 1986-1987. Primary products of this work include an inventory of standing structures in Brookland, an overview of the history, particularly the pre-1887 history, and archeological reconnaissance of potential pre-1887 sites, including limited subsurface testing. The year 1887 was used as an important division date because that was the date for the platting of the Brookland community and the approximate date for the founding of the Catholic University of America...
