Summary[edit]

Description
English: 'Grip blocking', Byerhope Moss. Drainage channels (locally "grips"), originally cut to improve the land, were found to be a problem for animal life (barrier to small mammals and drowning of grouse chicks) and to reduce the quality of water supplying the Derwent Reservoir. The channel is now blocked with a large peat turf, cut from where the pond is.
