Here's another tune pertaining to the early automobile. In 1899 the automobile was definitely not the major mode of transportation but more of a novelty that was initially greeted with some skepticism ("Get a horse!" was commonly heard in those days). They were usually open carriages and quite primitive by today's standards. But here's a pleasant piece that takes us for an automobile spin written in a polite gavotte, or dance, style. Published by Carlin and Lennox in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1899. Grace Walls Linn Sandy was an Indianapolis pianist and organist who is said to have composed a number of scores.

Original score source was from Indiana University at this link (copy/paste entire URL): https://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/inharmony/detail.do?action=detail &fullItemID=/ihs/sheetmusic/ihs-SHMU_39_49 A downloadable pdf copy is available from this link: https://www.ceder.net/piano/viewsingle.php?Id=7136&SqlId=589847&style=thumb

This is a reproduction of the original score. Several corrections were made. At measures 64 and 80 added a natural to the left hand Bs. Added a sharp to the upper Fs in the left hand of measure 84. Measure 28 probably should match measure 36, but I left it as written.

Score #263 in my current series "Women Ragtime Composers" featuring interesting selections written by ragtime era women. All are posted on YouTube at this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwk68P83iuhvxDlLI_-Yi4g/featured
