Project page makes two suggestions, i.e.

  • Bot-processed move to categories
  • Categorization by image (helped by tool)

Sorry, I'm not technical enough for that. Now, on your To Do-list is also a thing:

  • Add images to Wikipedia articles to show them to the world

Well, I find an image File:COLLECTIE TROPENMUSEUM Straatgezicht in Soerabaja TMnr 60043864.jpg. The picture isn't categorized yet and there's no description available, there's just the picture and the name of the file. I want to use that in an article nl:Ahrend. Can I just do that, or do I need to wait until all pictures are categorized? - Art Unbound (talk) 22:20, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you can use it! Please do. We'll find suitable categories for it eventually. Multichill (talk) 01:35, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks Multichill. If only for the experiment, I'll put it in right away. :) - Art Unbound (talk) 23:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wie is daarbij gebaat?
Hoi, the Tropenmuseum categories were created temporarily in order to prevent clashes with existing categories.. If you find a map between two categories, they should be merged. In the end, all the Tropenmuseum categories should disapear. Another reason for them is that we wanted the media to become available as soon as possible. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 00:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging PD pictures with CC is Copyfraud. When we accept old images under a Copyfraud license without diligent right clearance we can also accept the n-100 pragmatic rule of de Wikipedia! The museum has'nt found a rights holder fot its old pictures - so what? We are very restrictive with PD-old otherwise - why not here? --Historiograf (talk) 22:54, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is not copyfraud, but lazyness to change the tags prior to the upload. The KIT-license template contains a parameter |license= where you can fix the license if Cc-by-sa-3.0 isn't appropriate. --The Evil IP address (talk) 06:37, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

working through the pictures the image way[edit]

Since the pictures lack an english description, I go the image way to search for the right categories and add translations to the descriptions at the same time. Description and translation belong together in my view. --Neozoon (talk) 20:26, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stupid question[edit]

Just to make sure I'm doing this right, we're supposed to remove the "Images from KIT" categories, not leave them on, correct? Cerebellum (talk) 04:57, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering the same thing. But if you remove the KIT categories it may be harder to locate the KIT-collection for other editors. Just replace the "XXXX of Indonesia"-style categories, the KIT-stuff may be dealt with later by a bot. Alexpl (talk) 08:32, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, replace or remove. In the end we shouldn't have any "Images from KIT" categories left. The whole KIT-collection is in Category:Images from the Tropenmuseum so that's quite easy to locate. You might want to enable hidden categories in your preferences. Multichill (talk) 09:45, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image moves leaving orphaned pictures![edit]

I see that there are numerous content moves here for the "Tropenmuseum" pictures that do not seem to work. For example, look under:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:CommonsDelinker/commands&oldid=33167478

Or, as a specific example:

Rename Category:Images from KIT, Voorstelling Geografie - Aru-eilanden to Category:Aru islands (0 entries moved, 0 to go) Warning: Please add a reason. Warning: Username of requester missing (user parameter). For transparency and to prevent abuse, please add your username.

The old KIT category got deleted, but the images did NOT get transferred to the new one! Just click on the now red-linked old cat. Ingolfson (talk) 09:20, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Updating KIT licenses[edit]

The license template {{KIT-license}} provides a |license= for using licenses other than CC-BY-SA. While attempting to update some of the licenses, I ran into a snag. Photos such as this and this were taken more than 50 years ago in Indonesia, which gained independence from the Netherlands in 1945. Per {{PD-IDOld-Art30}}, the photographs would be public domain regardless of the author's lifetime. However, because these photos are provided by the Tropenmuseum, do we have to assume that they are taken by Dutch nationals? If so, does {{PD-Netherlands}}, which has a longer term of 70 years, supercede it? Arsonal (talk) 22:58, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date format (months?)[edit]

Some images have dates in the format "nn-year", e.g. "|date=08-1918" at 60051167. If nn is the month, this should be converted to "|date=1918-08". --  Docu  at 13:27, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I let my Internationalization-Bot scan the whole KIT files-Category. If there are fututre uploads please consider to use ISO dates. --Schlurcher (talk) 16:40, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
