Email[edit]
Should we email Panoramio and ask if they can make their images searchable for CC licenses? An email from WMF may carry more weight so we may wish to have them weigh in first. Jimbo's talk page may be the place to ask. His email may do the trick.--Canoe1967 (talk) 22:06, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

- I've come here because I had exactly the same question - it seems one cannot search Panoramio by license status. It would definitely be useful, from a Wikimedia Commons perspective, to enable that. An email from the Wikimedia Foundation could well be helpful. Schwede66 23:10, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- Schwede, google wants to close down Panoramio soon (aka "migrate to newer service called Google Maps Views": Panoramio founders try persuading Google not to kill site. CNET, September 24, 2014), so they will probably not care much about this at Panoramio. The best way to find CC Panoramio pics IMHO is geolocation.ws. It's a collection of only free licence images with geolocation, from several platforms (panoramio, flickr, geograph,...) You can reach geolocation.ws directly or more conveniently via the geohack, example, click on geolocation.ws to land on a map there at the coordinates (works also on enWP / deWP geohack). You can look at the geolocation map and find good images around the place, very easy! Check the licences (there are also wikimedia-incompatible CC-BY-NC and -ND licences, but you're looking for the needle in a matchbox there, not in a haystack like on panoramio!). Then click "view" image and find a semi-automatic process for upload to commons.wikimedia! I really love this, hope this helps you too! --Atlasowa (talk) 15:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

- incategory search for "rocks" in uncategorized images from panoramio or search for "mineral" (please adapt for your search words!)
