Consensual review[edit]

File:Vratislavice_nad_Nisou,_kostel_Nejsvětější_trojice_Dm366435-4502_IMG_7183_2018-08-08_15.10.jpg[edit]

Comment Look at the frame which you created with the left note by yourself. It shows that the left border of the tower is upright on average. But it is curved away from the vertical frame line. That's the barrel distortion. If you look at the right border of the tower, it is even not upright on average. It leans inwards. --Johannes Robalotoff 06:41, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Friedrichsbrücke_(20160209-_DSC6161).jpg[edit]

  • Nomination Friedrichsbrücke, Berlin --MB-one 08:28, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
  • Decline
  •  Neutral Top of the tower is cut off, though it's not egregious. I want to see what others say so sending straight to CR. --King of Hearts 04:48, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Truncated spire means artifact, so reject or QI with error ??? --Fischer.H 09:36, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Top crop. --Peulle 11:43, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

File:Pra_dea_Ri_dinviërn_te_Val_Sëlva_Gherdëina.jpg[edit]

  • Nomination The Pra da Ri meadows in Val Longia in Gröden - South Tyrol. --Moroder 21:30, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
  • Decline
  •  Oppose Significant camera shake in one of panorama segments, see note. Also, parts of image are not in focus. --Shansov.net 21:43, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment It's irrelevant at normal image size --Moroder 21:39, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment What is the "normal image size"? I'm checking it at the actual real size, and the problem is evident even when downsized. What is the point of uploading high resolution image if it can't be used at that resolution? --Shansov.net 21:54, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Beside camera shake also strange sharpness gradient or sharpness transitions in several parts of the image. Doesn't work for me, sorry. --Smial 21:10, 4 February 2019 (UTC) ps.: If the image was intended as a focus stacking, the attempt failed.
  •  Oppose per Smial.--Fischer.H 18:18, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Support - OK, the middleground is unsharp at full size, but this is a freakin HUGE file! It's absolutely beautiful at 3x the size of my laptop's 13-inch screen. It's a quality image. -- Ikan Kekek 06:37, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Blurred remains Blurred--Ermell 13:30, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose That's the curse of stitching: if one picture of your set fails, the complete picture fails. I know it can be hard to take the challenge to regretfully dump them - I have a dozen of them in my 'do-not-release' order :-( --PtrQs 23:42, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

File:Ciampanil_dla_Sciblota_Gherdëina.jpg[edit]

  • Nomination The Ciampanil dla Sciblota tower in Val Longia in Gröden - South Tyrol. --Moroder 18:57, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
  • Decline
  •  Support Good quality. --Paris Orlando 19:07, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Image is too soft, probably because of a camera shake --Shansov.net 19:13, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Support - This photo looks majestic and wonderful at 60% of its size. Shansov, you are penalizing the photo for being huge. It's because of rationales like yours that we see people downsize their photos - and then some of those downsized photos are passed. -- Ikan Kekek 07:09, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
    • @Ikan Kekek: no, I'm not penalizing for size. I just know what this camera sensor is capable of, and it's really great, probably one of the sharpest Bayer sensors ever (same as in my own camera too). Now, when I check the image and I see that it's blurred by camera shake, I can tell that it's certainly user error, one that it's very easy to avoid just by using a tripod or shorter exposure time. Does just having a 50 Mp camera make all shots QI and you can happily snap away not caring about actual quality? I don't think so, or we should allow blurred or out of focus images at smaller resolutions too? And yes, I do think that image should be downsized if it can't be used at full resolution anyway. --Shansov.net 14:48, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
  • For now, downsizing is officially banned on this site, although jury nullification and remarks like yours encourage it. -- Ikan Kekek 21:12, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
  • I may support photos that could be determined by someone (usually not me) to probably be downsized, but I sure don't call for them to be downsized like you did. -- Ikan Kekek 06:32, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose out of focus, no quality picture.--Fischer.H 17:11, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Lots of CA and not sharp.--Peulle 20:18, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Oppose I think, a QI should have the appropriate size. So the appropriate (down-)sizing should be done before the first nomination as QI. (And if my only way to show a stitch of for example 6 pics by 4 rows sharp is at a size of 6x4 Mpx, then I should have spared myself the burden of schlepping that tripod up the hill. ;-)) Quality criteria cannot be a question of size, as the justifiable size depends on the quality of the original picture(s). --PtrQs (talk) 01:01, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment @ PtrQs: your comment “should have spared myself the burden of schlepping that tripod up the hill” made my day! ;-) (To avoid misunderstandings: I think with schlepping PtrQs makes a so-called “Denglish”, i.e. German pseudo-English joke here. I am amused by his creative use of Denglish, not by an error nor by the image.) --Aristeas 09:41, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment - Schlep is an English word now, borrowed from Yiddish in the last 130 years or so. -- Ikan Kekek 12:33, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment Oops, thank you very much for correcting me! I had never read that word before, therefore my error. But even better, so I can even improve my English here. ;) Of course, to schlep(p) seems a very appropriate word for carrying photographic gear which can become rather heavy when I get tired … ;–). Thank you again, --Aristeas 17:02, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment I once read it in a book and waited for some decades for an opportunity to use it. - So now I can look out for new linguistic challenges ;-) --PtrQs 23:15, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
