The Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Genève, the Laboratory of Soil Biodiversity of the University of Neuchâtel and Wikimedia CH, the association for the advancement of free knowledge, have signed an agreement for the digitization and dissemination on Wikimedia Commons of photographs of microscopic preparation collected by Eugène Pénard in the early 1900's and preserved at the Geneva Museum.

Project Pénard is the code name of a cooperation project between the three institutions, it consists in the digitization of approximatively 900 slides created by Eugène Pénard.

Wikimedia CH is the Swiss chapter approved by the Wikimedia Foundation, created to support creation, collection and distribution of Open Content in a not-for-profit way in order to support education and equal opportunity of access to knowledge.

The aim of this project is to digitize a unique set of slides showing Amoeba collected in the Lake of Geneva during the first decade of the XIXth century.

This first phase of the project is financed by Wikimedia CH.
