Anyone interested is invited to post the Open Access File of the Day. In order to do so, please follow the steps described below:

  1. Check that the slot for the current day is not already filled in Commons:Open Access File of the Day (in which case please try again the next day). We aim at posting the file while that date is correct in UTC (if, for any reason, this does not work out, then as soon as possible thereafter).
  2. Scan the nomination page for a file that looks interesting to you. GLAMorous can help with that.
  3. Check that the file is from the indicated OA source and meets the criteria for Open Access File of the Day. If it does not, then choose another file that does.
  4. Post the file at the top of the "The featured files" section in Commons:Open Access File of the Day, just above the most recent one (leaving a line break between two consecutive months).
  5. Remove the file from Commons:Open Access File of the Day/Nominations.
  6. Remove information about the file featured three days ago from en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Open Access/Open Access File of the Day.
  7. Transfer the information concerning the previous Open Access File of the Day from en:Template:Open access file of the day to en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Open Access/Open Access File of the Day. This edit can be combined with the one above.
  8. Add information about the currently featured file to en:Template:Open access file of the day. Note that if you use the template Cite doi, you may have to "jump the queue" in order to have Citation Bot fetch the metadata for you (either in preview mode or after saving the page).
  9. Purge the relevant pages: :en:Template:Open access file of the day, :en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Open Access/Open Access File of the Day, :en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Open Access, :en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Open.
  10. Add the current file to Category:Open Access File of the Day.
  11. Tell the world about it, e.g. via social networks. Nothing wrong either in finding another use for the file on a Wikimedia project.
  12. Consider leaving a comment at the OA article from which today's file has been taken.

If you come across files that meet the criteria but are not listed on Commons:Open Access File of the Day (including its subpages for previous years) or Commons:Open Access File of the Day/Nominations, please add them to the latter.
