On 7 May 2010, User:Jimbo Wales deleted 72 sex related images from Wikimedia Commons. Of these, only 38 remain deleted. He also encouraged other administrators to do the same, and rewrote the proposed Commons:Sexual content policy. A number of pressures may have encouraged this, including Larry Sanger reporting the project to the FBI for hosting child pornography, and FOX News contacting sponsors with warnings about sexual content on Wikipedia. In the wake of the resulting backlash, Jimbo surrendered his special technical privileges as a founder relating to editing privileges above those of a regular user, and much of the content was undeleted. Following is some of the resulting discussion and press surrounding this event.
