Category talk:Monument Historique

Rename ?

The cat name "Monument Historique" is too generic, should be changed to "Monument Historique of France" or similar. --Túrelio 08:33, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

In that case, we don't really need the 'in France' part, either we talk of the official terminology, meaning it can only be applied in France, either we are talking of monuments having an historical importance, and not linked to the previous naming. Esby (talk) 17:57, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

If the general term is Listed buildings, why not "Listed buildings in France" (with a :fr: link to Monument Historique (France)), allowing other countries to fill their own listed buildings ? Jack ma (talk) 12:04, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

"Listed building" is the official denomination of the equivalent of French "monument historique", and the of US "National Historic Landmark". Besides, in Switzerland there are also "monument historique", or "Monumento storico", etc.
IMO, there should be a main category that could accept the label of every country, with a name generic enough like Category:Historic heritage, then like in all categories by country Category:Monuments historiques in France (and other organizations like UNESCO's World Heritage List, which is basically the same concept on a non national scale), and then the different administrative subdivisions as French departments, cities, whatsoever. --Coyau (talk) 15:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Careful: "Monument" in English is not the same than "Monument" in French I think: it can be a national park. "Listed buildings" or "Historic landmarks" is maybe more specific (protected buildings, not areas). Category:Cultural heritage monuments by country seem to gather differents things. Anyway, if we call our category "Listed buildings in France" (or "Historic landmarks in France"), it can be in "Buildings in France" as well (like this present category) - though objects are not buildings... I looked in Category:Heritage. Maybe we could do a more accurate choice.
I see no reason to translate "monument historique" in English since it is not translated on English WP (en:Monument historique) and we categorize whatever has the label. For areas, there is a different label quite like "monument historique": "site naturel" (with two levels of protection: "site naturel classé" and "site naturel inscrit", of course), it could be another caregory; but there are some parks with the "monument historique" label (for example the park of Versailles). --Coyau (talk) 18:46, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
